  • RE: Love music but hate DRM? Buy from Amazon [Appletell]
Yeah, we get that Rad. It's just that no matter from where you download it, some of us would still rather buy a physical CD than an MP3 download in most cases.
  • RE: Love music but hate DRM? Buy from Amazon [Appletell]
Depends upon the album for me. There are many bands who warrant the purchase of an entire album. But if I just want a couple songs to round out a playlist or want a song or two off a soundtrack, iTunes is the way to go.
  • RE: The MobileMe problems go all ironic on us [updated] [Appletell]
Consider yourself one of the lucky few. Still down for me this morning when going to me.com. Same error as reported above.
  • RE: iPhone 2.2 software requires App rating with deletion [Appletell]
I was thinking the same thing, Pelle. I'm guessing that the thought based on the leaked photo is incomplete. More likely you can rate the app when you delete it from your phone, but you're only prompted if you haven't already rated it. In other words, you can rate the app whenever you want, provided you've downloaded and installed it. But, if you delete the app before you rate it, you're prompted for a rating at that point. Seems to me that would make much more sense. Developers obviously don't want mostly disgruntled users rating their app.
  • RE: Apple votes no on Proposition 8 [Appletell]
I agree, Adam. Companies give money to political parties all the time without the public generally knowing. If anything, good for Apple for being open about it. If Andre choses to deny himself the better product because he disagrees with Apple's stance, that's certainly his decision. But I don't expect (or particularly want) everyone to agree with my personal beliefs, and therefore won't punish those who don't. Otherwise, I would never talk to my mom!
  • RE: David Cook to include his latest hit in iPhone App, will we see more of this? [Appletell]
A suggestion to Mr. Cook's publicist: for press photos, it's generally best to make sure your client doesn't look like a drunk caught in the act of urinating on a wall. Even in rock music.
  • RE: More new Get A Mac ads. [Appletell]
"While he is dealing them out, the stacks remain the same, with five on the left and three on the right, despite the fact that PC moves at least two bundles during this time. Then, after the camera cuts away to the Mac, and back to PC again, the stacks are mysteriously equal, though during this time, PC has not moved a single bill." Continuity error or accurate depiction of Microsoft's financial dealings?
  • RE: Apple blows it on October 14th [Appletell]
I'm guessing that'll be the case come Macworld Expo in January. First, though, they're going to make their money off this line-up for the holiday season.
  • RE: Apple’s October MacBook event live blog at Appletell [Appletell]
    $2,799.00. That model wasn't updated.
  • RE: Woz: iPod is SO last year [Appletell]
Wozniak seems like a decent enough fellow. Pretty smart. But he's been disconnected from Apple for so long now that I really have no idea why his opinions generate such buzz in the Apple community. I certainly wouldn't discount them, but I find it hard to generate any real interest in them, either.
  • RE: Porting games to the Mac is a tricky business [Appletell]
Yeah, Spore, but Spore's on everything. I could probably get a copy of Spore for my Intellivision.
  • RE: New MacBooks to have Nvidia Nside [Appletell]
If this rumor is true, I'll finally be getting a MacBook. It's the one thing that's held me back since this model was introduced.
  • RE: Metroid Prime, Pikmin get Wii-made [Gamertell]
Agreed, Danielle. After playing Corruption on the Wii, I tried to go back to Metroid Prime 2 and just couldn't do it because the controls felt so clunky and outdated. Now, I'll finally get to work through the games. I'm really looking forward to them. What would be REALLY cool is if the Wii version recognize your Game Cube save games, so you can pick up where you left off, if desired.
  • RE: Brick teaser now, more info to come [Appletell]
Judging from that teaser image, I think the "brick" is going to be a flashlight that points to a green wall with an Apple sticker on it. It'll cost $799 and it'll be schweeeeeeeeeet!
  • RE: The seven most pointless and worst iPhone apps [Appletell]
And although SimStapler is pointless, that's...well...the point. It's a throwback to a joke app of the Mac OS Classic days (hence the "desktop" image in the background). Kind of funny, really.
  • RE: Appletell review - iPhone 3G case round-up [Appletell]
We'll be covering the revo for the original iPhone in an upcoming round-up.
  • RE: Should AC/DC be on iTunes? [Appletell]
Depends on the artist and the album. There are some where I'll make playlists with my favorite songs, but there are certain bands where I get into the whole album, and would never split them up.
  • RE: My Hopes for a Notebook Refresh [Appletell]
I've been looking to get a MacBook for nearly two years now, but keep holding off until they get a dedicated video card in there. If that happens this month, I'll finally make the leap, but ONLY if that happens.
  • RE: iTunes 8 and Genius first impressions [Appletell]
All Apple knows is whether you bought it from them or got it from somewhere else. And those thin, long clouds in the sky are contrails from airplanes, not chemicals being dumped on us by the government to control our eating habits.
  • RE: Microsoft's new commercial; epic...fail [Appletell]
Okay, fair enough. It's not a retaliation, it's merely a reaction to Apple's campaign. I think Microsoft would've been better off to drop the "stereotype" bit with the fake Hodgman at the beginning, though. Plus, the whole thing feels a bit to me like Apple's earlier "Think Different" campaign. Not so much "think" different, but "we're all different."
  • RE: Microsoft's new commercial; epic...fail [Appletell]
But it's brand repositioning based on Apple's I'm a Mac campaign. How can that not help but be seen as retaliating? I mean, they open up the commercial with the claim that Apple has been stereotyping them.
  • RE: Microsoft's new commercial; epic...fail [Appletell]
I don't think the Mac ads were stereotyping users to begin with, but the systems themselves. The commercials don't start, "Hi, I'm a Mac user." "And I'm a PC user." They start, "Hi, I'm a Mac." "And I'm a PC." The actors refer to themselves as as if they're the systems, not people who use the systems. Both are likable in their own way, and they actually get along quite well. Nothing in the commercials is mean spirited. Apple's point is that the Mac is all about ease of use and no errors. PCs, on the other hand, are clunkier, and spend more time working through (or, more accurately, around) problems. The Mac just works. That's the point of Apple's commercials, not that all Mac users are casual and hip while all PC users are dorky and confused. I mean, if Apple wants to get PC users to switch, are they going to do it by insulting PC users? That interpretation just doesn't make any sense. So, I think Microsoft missed the point with their retaliatory ads.
  • RE: Microsoft's latest ad: 'I'm a PC, and I've been made into a stereotype' [Gadgetell]
I think, first of all, the ad means Apple's campaign is obviously working. Microsoft has to fight back against a particular ad? How times have changed. But Apple's ads do more than "stereotype," as this campaign claims. They point out specific things the software can do. They point out ease of use and particular applications, and they state what can't be done so easily on the PC. This ad doesn't talk about software or capabilities, it talks about selling fish and designing green buildings. But with what? How? Can a Mac not do these things? The Mac ads talk about college kids using them. This ad shows a guy in a shark tank. Is Microsoft really after the shark tank crowd? And Eva Longoria? Really, Microsoft? Eva Longoria? No, I think this ad just shows that Microsoft is on the ropes, and they have no idea what they're really fighting or where to throw their punches. And for what it's worth, I'm a Mac and a PC.
  • RE: Adventure returns to the Mac courtesy of Jack Keane [Appletell]
I just confirmed with Freeverse that they're publishing the game in the U.S., RuneSoft is publishing elsewhere.
  • RE: iTunes 8 and Genius first impressions [Appletell]
That's exactly what it is. If the band has no songs in the iTunes store, they won't work with Genius.
  • RE: iTunes 8 and Genius first impressions [Appletell]
Once you turn on Genius, the "Turn On Genius" option under the Store menu will become "Turn Off Genius." Too bad, though, that anything reminds you of "Hotel California."
  • RE: Adventure returns to the Mac courtesy of Jack Keane [Appletell]
A trustworthy source, but I haven't confirmed it with Freeverse. I'll report back once I get confirmation. I'm assuming the fact that the download link has been removed from the RuneSoft site is confirmation that someone is putting out a retail copy...
  • RE: Apple planning October event to update computers? [Appletell]
I've been considering buying a MacBook for over a year now, but keep putting it off in hopes they finally add a real graphics card to it. Hopefully, it'll finally happen at this event, should it come to pass.
  • RE: iTunes 8 and Genius first impressions [Appletell]
But, will it work with my JRock songs? Because if Apple can't look at Go!Go!7188 and recommend Mummy the Peepshow to me, then I'll have nothing to do with it!
  • RE: TomCruise.com gets an iPhone version [Appletell]
Not even "All the Right Moves" with a young Lea Thompson? Mmmmmm. Young Lea Thompson.
  • RE: Lawsuit filed over iPhone 3G performance [Appletell]
    Yea! Hyperbole!
  • RE: Appletell giveaway - Moto Racer and Big Bang Sudoku for iPhone [update: 100% more swag] [Appletell]
Hello, Barbara. The winner was Adam D. You can read the announcement [url=http://www.appletell.com/apple/comment/freeverse-game-giveaway-winner-announced/]here[/url].
  • RE: Microsoft's Mojave Experiment [Appletell]
Judging from the fact that Apple has never had to launch an ad campaign that tricks people into liking OS X, I'll say it's Windows Vista they hate.
  • RE: Had bad 3G reception before? Firmware 2.0.2 gets rid of it completely... [Appletell]
Old article, Patty. We posted this article before the details of the slow updaters were announced, and you'll see if you look back that we covered that, too.
  • RE: Pandora hit with soaring royalty fees; Is shutting down their only option? [Appletell]
Of course, the recording industry was built on greed and stupidity, so it's not like this is anything new. It's just them being themselves.
  • RE: Microsoft's Mojave Experiment [Appletell]
100 times more vulnerable? Really? Can you back that up? And what's this latest hacking competition you mention? Show me some results. The reason why Macs have fewer viruses isn't relevant at all. If it's because Mac has only 10% of the marketshare, then great. Whatever it takes. Doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of viruses out there do not affect Mac owners. Your personal experiences, again, don't come into play here. Even if you've never once had a single problem with your PC, that doesn't change the fact that Vista was so bad, and received so poorly out the shoot, that Microsoft has to resort to the Mojave Experiment just to try to convince people to give the OS a shot. That's not a Mac vs. PC thing, it's a public perception thing. And public perception wouldn't be so bad had the OS been any good when it was released. Remember, it was PC users and the PC media who were attacking it. Mac users hold no sway when it comes to criticizing Microsoft because people see us as homers (and justifiably so). And as for this comment: "Microsoft isn’t free, either, but at least it’s a whole lot cheaper than Apple." Mac OS X costs $130 for one, all inclusive version. Vista runs from $270 for a stripped down "home" version to $340 for an "ultimate" version, plus your $130 service pack upgrade which you apparently need in order to get the thing to run properly. OS X upgrades are free, unless it's a major release (as in moving from XP to Vista). So, who's more expensive? Your PC may be, but that doesn't have anything to do with Microsoft.
  • RE: Microsoft's Mojave Experiment [Appletell]
Of course, you're not taking into account the myriad PC users who still refuse to use Vista, nor those of us who use both systems, and who still find Vista mostly unusable, albeit improved. And, of course, all of the fixes in the world aren't going to change the fact that Microsoft released Vista way too soon with no concern for the user. You can accept that sort o policy, if you like. Those of us with experiences different from yours (which I guess makes us "ignorant," by your logic), will keep working in other operating systems that are looking towards the future while yours is still trying to correct the past.
  • RE: Pandora hit with soaring royalty fees; Is shutting down their only option? [Appletell]
How? I'm not doubting you, I'd just like to know.
  • RE: Pandora hit with soaring royalty fees; Is shutting down their only option? [Appletell]
I'd love to see Pandora use RIAA bands to promote indie bands. Type in the name of a corporate band you like, then let Pandora pull up decent indie bands that are good substitutes. It's a win for the indie bands, who get promotion. It's a win for the fans, who find bands they otherwise wouldn't have, and it sticks it to the RIAA, as Pandora would use major label bands to pull fans away from major label bands, and they'd get no royalties for it.
  • RE: The futility of the "Macs are more expensive than PCs" argument [Appletell]
"I swear, sometimes Mac users act like they learn their logic from FOX news network." Harsh! If you'd read through the article at Applelinks, you'd see that Charles posted many links to arguments in favor of the PC side of things. No one claims Macs aren't more expensive than PCs, rather that these costs balance out more quickly than most PC users and supporters care to admit. Again, if you read through the links provided by Charles, you'll see many PC journalists supporting this. Just because we're writers on Mac sites doesn't mean we can't be fair. We're not misleading anyone, as a scan of the articles here at Appletell will review we're quick to point out Apple's flaws. Would it be possible for us to write anything pro Macintosh without you considering it bias just because we're Mac users? The only way we can be "fair," in your eyes, is to bash the Mac? As for this: "If you’re going to love the Mac that much, at least tell people upfront so that they aren’t misled by your “fair and balanced” report." If people come to a site called "Appletell" and aren't expecting us to love the Mac, they've got more to worry about than potentially being misled.
