Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1:  Worth the Wait

by Elisabeth Young on Jun 19, 2008 at 07:59 PM

There has been a lot of hype surrounding Sony Ericsson’s newest Windows Mobile QWERTY device, the XPERIA X1. From hands on experience it seems to be really worth the wait.

Combining mobile communication functionality with remarkable multimedia features, the XPERIA has practically been the most-awaited Windows Mobile device for this year. The X1 has a whopping 3-inch wide 800 x 480 touch-screen display, an optical joystick (can you say “whoa!”), 3.2 megapixel camera, A2DP Bluetooth, aGPS, WiFi, and is expandable with microSD (it has 400MB onboard). It also has that QWERTY keyboard to take prime advantage of the Windows Mobile 6 operating system.

As a phone, it’s got quad-band GSM/EDGE, and 900/1700/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (or 850/1700/1900/2100MHz in what must be a US-bound model).

The design is cool and very easy on the eyes. The keyboard touch and feel may flatter it a bit, as the response is not that great. All in all, there’s quite a bit of potential in the XPERIA, and people are going to be pleasantly surprised when it releases this second half of 2008.

Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1 gets more details

by Arnold Zafra on May 28, 2008 at 06:38 AM

Sony Xperia X1

The buzz and hype over Sony Ericsson’s upcoming XPERIA X1 smartphone continues to build up as Sony Ericsson’s developer site posted an updated white paper about the mobile phone. The white paper is still a long read and might bore you to death so if you don’t have the time to check it out, the paper contained two bits of new and welcomed information.

So now, aside from the details that we already know as well as some pre-order pricing from some wireless carriers, we were also able to learn that the XPERIA would have 256MB of SDRAM and a 1500mAh lithium polymer battery which can give out a good 10 hours of talk time via GSM or 6.5 hours via UMTS.  If you would insist on checking out the white paper, just follow the read link below.

HTC Touch Diamond, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 compared in images

by Robert Nelson on May 18, 2008 at 10:22 AM

HTC Touch Diamond and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Its hard to deny that the upcoming Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 and the HTC Touch Diamond both look really nice, but are still feature packed phones. A few images have recently surfaced showing both handsets side by side, while the images are not perfect, they still give a nice perspective. Given the option to use either phone it would be a hard decision, without handling either handset yet, I would lean towards the Touch Diamond. Keep reading for a few more pics…

Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1 outed for a mid-September release?

by Robert Nelson on May 3, 2008 at 09:32 AM

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 mid-September launch date

Oh you have to love the leaks, especially when they are giving out the goods on a phone as hot as the XPERIA X1 from Sony Ericsson. We have seen plenty of details come out for the X1, most of the specs have been confirmed and we have even seen some unofficial pricing, however the release remained somewhat of a mystery, that is until now.

The most recent leak comes courtesy of a newsletter from Handango, and they are clearly stating the “Xperia X1 will launch in mid-September 2008,” and in addition the phone will include the Handango InHand service. While the release time-frame is not official as its not coming from Sony Ericsson we can only hope it is true, it does however fit in with the estimate that was previously stated from SE, in that the XPERIA X1 would launch during the second part of 2008.

Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1 preorder pricing revealed

by Robert Nelson on Mar 14, 2008 at 07:02 AM

We are slowly but surely getting more details on Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1, we have seen the announcement along with rumors of a delay that were later (and thankfully) proven untrue, now we are beginning to get some pricing details. One thing that seems to be sure is that the XPERIA X1 is not going to be a cheap phone, but of course I think we could have all guessed that. A few online retailers have begun to list the XPERIA X1:

Could Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1 be headed to AT&T?

by Robert Nelson on Mar 6, 2008 at 09:38 AM

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, possibly headed to AT&T

Sony Ericsson has their hot Windows Mobile 6.1-based XPERIA X1 handset on display at CeBIT and it seems to be giving a nice clue as to what carrier we may be able to grab this on when its released later this year.

As seen in the images, there is a clear AT&T logo in the center of the display. While it could just merely be a coincidence or possibly someone making an attempt to build speculation, or even Sony Ericsson trying to drop a hint to AT&T, only time will tell just which it is. As you would expect, there has not been any official confirmation of which carrier the X1 will hit upon its release.

Keep reading for a few more images of the XPERIA X1, along with the AT&T logo, the image appears to be showing off a nice shot of the UI in action.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will be released as scheduled

by Robert Nelson on Mar 3, 2008 at 07:48 PM

It seems the recent rumors about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 being delayed are just not true. According to an official statement from Aldo Liguori, who is the Corporate Vice President of the Global Communications and PR department at Sony Ericsson it will be released as originally planned.

“I can confirm that we will be launching the X1 product in 2nd Half of 2008, as per our announcement of 10th February that we made in Barcelona”

This is definitely excellent news for those waiting for the XPERIA X1. Hopefully this will hold true and not have any future changes that cause a delay, its still nice to hear that at least as of now it will be released as scheduled, its just a shame that it could not be sooner.

Sony Ericsson to delay the XPERIA X1 until 2009

by Robert Nelson on Mar 2, 2008 at 07:32 PM

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Originally expected to ship during the second half of 2008, it now is being rumored that the highly anticipated Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will be delayed until 2009. While the XPERIA X1 seems to be a very hot phone with a great set of specs, with a wait time as long as this it will be interesting to see just how well the phone will sell upon release. I would imagine most people would get tired of waiting and the initial buzz will die down.

In addition to the release of the X1, the list also includes a variety of other Sony Ericsson launch dates. You can check out the full list of release dates here: Sony Ericsson.
