Peep Show: WowWee introduces RS Media, a do everything robot

by Doug Berger on Jan 11, 2007 at 07:46 PM

WowWee RS Media WoWWee Robotics, creators of Robosapien, have just introduced the new RS Media, a programmable robot that can play media and even be programmed to dance to it.  The robot is fully “hackable” via Java on your computer, storage device, or even an SD card.  The company is touting that the device can “hear, see and even speak,” and sports a color LCD screen, hand-mounted tweeters, and a back-mounted woofer.  It runs on Linux, and has a camera on its chest, which we were having fun playing around with at CES Unveiled in Vegas.  Thankfully, it also comes with a remote control so you can move it around without being a Java programmer.  The RS Media also has a media player, hence the name, that supports MP3 (audio) and MPEG 4 (video) playback via its integrated sound system.  The orange robot can also display virtually anything from your PC via its LCD display.

I personally enjoyed my time over at the WowWee booth at CES Unveiled because it was a break from all of the other “serious” technologies that were being announced.  The RS Media will be available in the US this fall, and will run you $299. Check out our hands-on peep show below:

Most human-like robot to date…with a personality, speech and more

by Adam Berger on Jun 8, 2006 at 03:12 PM

Robosapien V2The future of humanoid robotics has arrived with the introduction of Robosapien V2 from WowWee Robotics. Just like his predecessor Robosapien, Robosapien V2 (RoboV2) is a mind blowing fusion of technology and personality. RoboV2 sees, hears and even speaks 160 phrases! If he was any more realistic he would be human!

This super-intelligent robot responds accordingly to just about anything you do. For example, if you surprise him and put your hand in front of his face in a ‘stop’ motion, he’ll flinch and say, ‘whoa.’

Eight inches taller than the original Robosapien, the 22-inch Robosapien V2 is packed with even more advanced dynamic motion, interactive sensors, and 100 new preprogrammed functions and speech capability. Robosapien V2 has a multi-sensory, interactive personality, fluid biomechanical agility, and attitude. Advanced agility allows Robosapien V2 to move like a human. His articulated waist, shoulders, wrists and hands give him a full range of motion that allow him to pick up, drop and throw objects; sit, twist from side to side, bend, lie down, sit up and stand up again.
