by Robert Nelson on Apr 21, 2008 at 02:54 PM

HTC P3470 Smartphone

HTC officially announced the P3470 back in early February and we are now seeing it launch over in India. The Windows Mobile 6 Professional, touchscreen based, GPS equipped smartphone is currently available through authorized retailers for 19,900 INR, which is about $500 US.

In addition the P3470 will also retain the previously mentioned features, which include a 2.8-inch 240 x 320 display, 2-megapixel camera, quad-band GSM connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, 256MB internal memory with a microSD card slot for additional storage as well as USB support.

HTC intro’s the P3470: An affordable touchscreen based phone with GPS

by Robert Nelson on Feb 12, 2008 at 08:28 AM

HTC P3470

HTC has introduced the P3470, which according to HTC “sets a new standard in affordable smartphone, GPS-based devices.” Overall it seems like the P3470 will offer a decent set of specs along with being a nice looking phone, much better than that spy shot image we first saw back in January. The HTC P3470 features a 2.8-inch QVGA display, 200MHz CPU, 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD card slot and a built-in GPS with TomTom Navigator 6.

by JG Mason on Feb 5, 2008 at 12:01 PM

pointui interface now in swanky black

Price: Free (!)
Rating: Not quite ready for prime time
Pros:Stunningly beautiful for Windows Mobile.  Movement between swipes is crisp and fun.  Setting (most) are easier to get to.
Cons: Not stable on my test phone (Palm 700wx)
Overall: A great look at promising things to come.

Got Windows Mobile phone with a touchscreen and ready for something new?  Enter PointUI which skins your phone allowing finger pointing navigation and access to the features most of us use every day.  And it is free and now in swanky-black.

HTC Pharos: Specs, first pics?

by Robert Nelson on Jan 17, 2008 at 01:21 PM

HTC 3470 Pharos Smartphone

It seems that this would be one of the first images of the upcoming HTC 3470 Pharos. Granted, like many first, spy shot type images the clarity is not the best, but still good enough to give a good understanding of just what the Pharos will look like.

The Pharos will be running Windows Mobile 6 with HTC’s TouchFlo interface. It will feature a 2.8-inch QVGA display, Texas Instrument OMAP 200Mhz CPU processor, 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM, Bluetooth, integrated-GPS and a 2-megapixel camera.

Sadly the Pharos is said to not include Wi-Fi, hopefully that will change before the final release. No word yet on any release date or pricing information.

by JG Mason on Jan 6, 2008 at 01:43 AM

HTC smartphone
I was chatting up Leigh Geary of coolsmartphone.com about what his expectations were from Mr. Gates at tomorrow’s CES keynote.  With the iPhone entry, Google’s Android looming like a specter, we (both Leigh and I) are looking to Windows to bring something new to the table.  Will Bill deliver something outstanding in his last CES address as CEO?

Microsoft announces Windows Mobile 6

by Doug Berger on Feb 8, 2007 at 04:57 PM

Windows Mobile 6

After quite a long time of rumors and speculation, Microsoft has taken the wraps off of its new Windows Mobile 6 (AKA Crossbow), the next-gen version of - you guessed it - Windows Mobile 5.  Remember, the new versions will be called Professional, Standard, and Classic - as opposed to Pocket PC for phone, Pocket PC for PDA and all of that nonsense.  Here’s the run-down of specs and features of the new OS:

- HTML support in email
- Windows Live for Windows Mobile
- File transfer capability in Windows Live Messenger
- New versions of mobile Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with rich editing
- Remote wipe capability for stolen and lost devices
- Call history in contact cards
- Tight Vista integration
- “Calendar ribbon” for more easily viewing schedule by day or week
- New versions of .NET Compact Framework and SQL Server built-in

Devices and carriers for the new mobile OS have not been announced yet, but Engadget is expecting to hear more on Monday.  Stay tuned for more.

Microsoft names Windows Mobile 6 versions Standard, Professional, Classic

by Doug Berger on Jan 30, 2007 at 03:26 AM

Windows Mobile LogoIn a effort to clear up the confusion in the Windows Mobile naming convention, Microsoft has decided to rename them Standard, Professional, and Classic for the next-gen Windows Mobile 6 (codename Crossbow).  What is currently known as Pocket PC Phone Edition - used on touchscreen devices - will now become Professional.  Windows Mobile Smartphone edition, which is a non-touch screen version lacking Mobile Office, will become Standard, and Pocket PC Edition (for PDAs only) will become Classic.  The new names are really too vague to be helpful, so we’ll see how long they last.
