MSI intro’s the Neton all-in-one desktop PC lineup

MSI has recently unveiled their all-in-one desktop PC lineup, which has been dubbed the MSI Wind Neton. The PCs will be available in three models, the M16, M19, and M22 all of which offer touchscreen displays, are being powered by Atom processors and have the option to include a TV tuner.
To begin with, the M16 features a 15.6-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution and will also have a DVD burner. Next up we have the M19, which has a slightly larger display coming in at 18.5-inches with a resolution of 1366 x 768. Finally, closing it out, we have the full HD-capable M22. This model features the largest display of the bunch coming in at 22-inches with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The M22 can also be configured with a Blu-ray drive and a remote control.
As for the processing power, as mentioned earlier, they are being powered by Atom processors. The Wind Neton can be ordered with either Windows XP or Windows Vista. The XP models will have single-core processors while the Vista models will have dual-cores.
Still unannounced was any information regarding storage and memory. As for availability, the M19 is expected first and it will start at $500 depending on configuration, the M16 will follow in February and begin at $400 with the M22 coming in March 2009 with prices starting at $799.

MSI Wind drops to $349 at Best Buy

With recent rumors that an updated MSI Wind will be coming soon, this price cut is not much of a surprise, but it is still welcomed. Best Buy, which has just recently began selling the MSI Wind netbook, originally had it selling for $399. Now it is just $349.99, which means another reason to grab a Wind, that is if you were considering a netbook purchase.
This price cut may have me reconsidering the Eee PC 1000h I was about to hit the checkout button for. Sadly, the one drawback is the fact that it is currently listed as backordered, but if you can handle waiting a bit, this looks to be a great price.
The MSI Wind that you will find at Best Buy is running Windows XP and features a 10-inch display, 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, 120GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM. Additionally, it sports three USB ports, and Ethernet port, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, a built-in card reader and a built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam. You know, the typical netbook specs.

MSI estimated to sell 700,000 Wind netbooks this year
MSI is expected to reach sales of somewhere between 600,000 and 700,000 units for their Wind netbook. Although it sounds like a big difference from the 4 million that Asus has sold, MSI is coming in well above their initial goal of 500,000.
The higher than expected sales are due in part because of “white-box vendors” in Europe and Southeast Asia who have purchased the Wind netbook and then resold it under their own brand. Of course, without the surge and popularity of the netbook in general right now, those “white-box vendors” may have been looking elsewhere for products.
In addition to the success with the Wind, MSI has stated that they are also expecting to sell 800,000 to 1 million of their own branded notebooks this year. Assuming their sales figures are accurate, we may see MSI overtake Samsung for a top ten worldwide vendor position.

MSI Wind sees silent recall, shipping delays caused by ripped DVD’s

This story is a little sketchy at best, but it seems that some of the team behind the MSI Wind may have been doing a little playing around during the process of building out the disk image. According to the details, some of the initial shipping delays that we saw with the Wind were caused by the fact that screener copies of movies along with some personal family photos found their way onto the netbooks. According to the reports the hidden files are “mostly corrupt” and need some extra effort in order to be played or viewed. Still playable or not, movies can take up a decent amount of space, anyone with an MSI Wind may want to do some digging around and check for some large files. You may be able to free up some precious hard drive space.
MSI intro’s the charity-supporting Wind netbook Love Edition

MSI has recently unveiled a new special edition for its Wind netbook, the Love Edition and it will support the Global Charity Program. The new special edition Wind will be available in pure white with tans, bright silver and shining gold hearts on the casing. It will otherwise keep the same specs as the standard edition Wind.
With the introduction of this netbook, MSI is also launching the “Love with the Wind” global charity program which will help “poor children” in countries such as Taiwan, China, Poland, Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Korea and India learn to use computers.
According to MSI, their goal is to “make a concrete contribution to bridge the digital divide and encourage others to show their care as well.“
Breaking: MSI shipping Wind U100s
MSI has begun shipping their Wind U100 notebook computers. A release from the company says “all” pre orders have shipped.
You can find the 10” U100 Wind at Fry’s and online New Egg, Amazon, Fry’s, ZipZoomfly, MWave.com and Buy.com. A quick check finds buy.com sold out but Amazon seems to still have some.
You’ll recall the U100 features Windows XP and a 3 cell battery and are priced at $479.99. A 6-cell battery is due in September as well as a Linux version. Batteries are upgradable.

MSI Wind to finally ship on July 7?

It looks like the MSI Wind is finally getting ready to begin shipping to US customers. The Wind, which was listed in the MSI Shop and then removed has since been re-listed and is now showing a shipping date of July 7.
Currently the Wind is simply just listed and is unavailable, with no pre-order option available. There are also limiting customers to a one Wind netbook per order because of limited quantities. The models listed will include the three-cell battery and they are retailing for $479.99.
Amazon, who also has them listed for $479.99 with the three-cell batteries is still reflecting a 3 to 5 week time frame before the Wind will ship. Still unknown is when the Wind will begin shipping with a six-cell battery, however it is rumored to becoming sometime in July, of course after all of the delays related to the three-cell model I would not be all that surprised when that gets pushed back even further.

MSI Wind challenges the Eee, again
![]()
MSI and Asus are already ‘battling it out’ in the mini-PC market with the Wind and Eee PC notebooks. However not that long ago Asus showed us the Eee Box and of course MSI has come up with some competition.
We do not yet know the complete details of what has been unimaginatively dubbed the “MSI Wind PC” but what we do know is very interesting. First, it is small, measuring in at just 11.81 x 10.24 x 16.14-inches, and this compact system is due to the fact that (or so MSI claims) the full-speed operation of the desktop is just 35 watts, meaning that it doesn’t need a fan to cool it. This not only makes it smaller, but also a lot quieter than your average PC, at just 30dB.
The only other specifications that MSI has released is that it will be Energy Star 4.0 compliant, and will include a 60GB 7,200RPM hard drive, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 802.11n, a DVD combo drive and a TV tuner card. However, slightly irritating, we do not know anything about the processor or RAM that it will have, or even the operating system, so as of yet we cannot compare it to the Eee Box, but hopefully it wont be long.

MSI Wind annouced as first 10” with Intel Atom; Something about special “look glare”

Here is something we can start to get really excited about: 10” micro laptop, a great looking LED screen, Windows XP and 2.6 lbs and costing just $499. MSI is officially launching their WIND (WiFi Network Device) today with anticipated shipping of the June 16. MSI is touting they are the first to release the Atom processor mated to a 10” screen. The full spec list isn’t bad, especially if the draw of small, inexpensive laptops has caught your eye.
MSI Wind to offer Windows XP, SUSE based models

While the MSI Wind is expected to be available shortly, new details are clearing up the operating system options and pricing. We have already learned that the Wind will feature (in the US) a 10-inch display with a 1024 x 600 resolution, and have other options to include a built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam, 4-in-1 card reader along with Wi-Fi 80.211 b/g and an 80GB hard drive.
It is now clear that the Wind will also be offered with your choice of either Windows XP or Novell’s SUSE Linux pre-installed. The Windows XP based model will retail for $549 and offer a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth and a six-cell battery that is expected to give up to six-hours of life. The SUSE based model will be priced a little lower, coming in at $399 and offer up 512MB of RAM, however it will be missing the Bluetooth and also come with just a three-cell battery which is expected to give around two and a half hours of life.
Hopefully the Wind will launch as expected on June 3.
