Verizon’s Samsung U940 now “Glyde”

by Zach Flauaus on Feb 26, 2008 at 09:11 AM

It’s been known for a while that the Samsung F700 is going to be heading to Verizon. We’ve gone through the standard process; heard rumors of it coming, seen it confirmed, and also saw the FCC put it’s big ol’ approval stamp on it. Since Verizon has been on a roll with their naming scheme (Voyager, Venus, Chocolate, Gleam), it’s only appropriate that this phone has one. The first codename was the “Q-Ball.” The new, and more appropriate name, is now the “Glyde.” This comes from the phone having a slide-out QWERTY keyboard like bigger PDA/Smartphones, so it’s only appropriate that it gains that name.

No new date has been released, but it is apparently still set for release in Q1 of 2008. Could it come a little sooner? You only have one more month, Verizon.

Verizon Wireless Samsung U940 FCC Style Pics

We saw the FCC approval came for the Samsung U940 back in late December and now we are seeing some of those wonderful FCC-style pictures. A release date and pricing information is still not know. The FCC also has a bit of possible bad news for anyone who was excited about getting the U940 as a web phone, the user manual is stating that the browser is WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) and not HTML. That could be disappointing, especially considering the U940 was becoming a highly anticipated phone.

Keep reading for a few more pics of the Samsung U940…

Verizon’s rumored 2008 phone introductions

by Robert Nelson on Feb 7, 2008 at 01:23 PM

We all saw the white Touch, and it looks like Verizon customers should be able to get the XV6900 in their hands as early as late-February or early-March. While that alone is reason to get excited, the lineup does not stop there. The Samsung U940 is expected in Q1, with a possible launch in March. The U940 will be followed up by the Motorola W755, that is expected to be available during the spring. Then lastly a follow up to the V710 is expected to hit in the late spring, the new handset will be the Motorola V750 which is also being called the Utopia. Unfortunately there are not many details yet on the Utopia. Looks like a good year phone wise for Verizon customers.

Correction: Updated VX6900 to XV6900.  Sorry for the confusion.

Vodafone Spain getting the F700 in white

Vodafone F700 in White

Vodafone Spain is getting ready to launch the Samsung F700 in white, which at least from the available pictures is a nice style improvement over the current black version.

The new white model, the F700v will retain the same specs as the previous black version. Hopefully Verizon will see this shiny new color and release a similar offering with their branded U940.
