The mysterious death of the cursed monitor

by Christian Milsom on Oct 31, 2008 at 02:44 PM

Evil monitor

Since it is Halloween, Gadgetell is taking a look at some the tech horror stories our writers have experienced.  Here is one tale.

This is a true story of my encounter with a monitor of the worst kind.  I have always relied on CRTs for two main reason; the first is the consistently good picture quality it provides and the second was that I couldn’t bear to pay for a new one.  However, one day it occurred to me that two monitors are better than one, so after investigating my graphics card I borrowed a VGA-to-DVI adapter from a friend (it was a very nice lilac color!).

So, I squeezed two clunky 15” CRTs onto my desk, the table creaking in protest and that is where the problems started.  Firstly, the cable, non detachable, could not reach the PC.  Fifteen minutes, later I moved the PC, connected the two monitors up, and switched it on. . . .

HTC plans to sell 2 million Diamonds this year

by Robert Nelson on May 17, 2008 at 01:04 PM

HTC Touch Diamond

Well, HTC has already sold two million Touch handsets and it seems they believe they can do just the same with the newly announced Touch Diamond. Except with the Diamond they expect to hit that two million mark within the year and with the handset being released first in June that gives them just about six months to achieve their goal. Sounds a little lofty, but DigiTimes is reporting that Taiwanese mobile carrier CHT has already ordered about 20,000 to 30,000 units, that number combined with the other large carriers across the world it almost seems doable.

Microsoft Zune tops 2 million units sold

by Robert Nelson on May 11, 2008 at 10:06 AM

The Zune has some reason to celebrate, and while they are still far from Apple and the iPod, they have just reached the respectable 2 million sold mark. This new level comes just about one year from when Microsoft announced they sold the first million Zune’s, and with the increased sales some increased market share comes as well. Microsoft has been (albeit small) affecting the market share of some others such as Creative, who recently saw a two-percent drop. While the Zune has still not been able to affect the iPod with any major significance, its seems to be in the game for the long haul and has only been improving since its initial launch back in November 2006.
