Rumor: Palm Treo Pro coming to Sprint this January

What would we do without rumors and speculation? We geeks would have nothing to look forward to. The latest rumor is surrounding the Palm Treo Pro and is calling for a CDMA version to be landing with Sprint as early as January.
The rumored launch date is calling for January 11 to be exact, but we will have to wait for an official announcement before we begin to get excited. Sure, some have already killed Palm off and moved on to bigger and better, but all things considered, the Treo Pro is a pretty decent offering and it is certainly a nice improvement over the Treo 800w. Additionally, it should make a welcomed addition to the Sprint lineup. As for pricing, that is still up in the air.

Treo beats BlackBerry and iPhone—in malfunctions
![]()
Surveys like this are always very interesting as they show the real truths behind the reliability of products, not just the output of the company’s marketing department. In this case, SquareTrade, a research group, have taken it open themselves to tackle smart phones and to see their reliability (or lack thereof, as the case may be) over the first year of purchase. And what better to use than 15,000 handsets consisting of BlackBerrys, iPhones and Treos.
As my not-so-inconspicuous title suggests, the Treo performed poorly, in fact, surprisingly poorly! After one year 5.6% of all iPhones malfunctioned, followed by a sizable jump to 12% for the BlackBerry and a massive 16% of Treos. This is incredibly worrying if you have just a bought a Treo, but comforting if you have selected the iPhone!

RIM ousted from #1 by smartphone owners

There is a new sheriff in town and it’s name is iPhone. This year, according the JD Powers the top dog spot goes to Apple’s phone, leaving RIM to finish in the #2 spot. As you can see from the above graph, Apple’s entry was not included in last year (the survey’s inaugural year). The graph shows some interesting items.
Find out what after the break.
Best Buy to carry the T-Mobile G1, Pearl Flip 8220, Palm Treo Pro
As much as this pains me to say, it appears as if Best Buy is becoming the place to go for popular handsets. It was not that long ago that they added the iPhone 3G and HTC Touch Diamond.
Now, it looks like customers will soon be able to grab a few more smartphones and it seems that October 26 is the day to look forward to. On that day Best Buy will make the unlocked Palm Treo Pro available. Of course, that is perhaps the least exciting of the bunch as the Pearl Flip 8220 and HTC G1 will also be made available that same day.
Treo Pro, available now free

How do you get the new Treo Pro free? Two easy steps: 1. Move to the UK. 2. Sign up for Vodaphone. In a move that is sure to have Treo fans jealous, Vodaphone is offering the new sexy black Treo Pro to its customers with different plans ranging from free to 340 pounds.

Palm officially unveils the unlocked Treo Pro

Palm, once again has announced the Treo Pro, of course it seems this time it was made official, as they have released a press release, promo video and also added the newly designed Treo to their website.
This release is actually pretty exciting for a Treo, not only does the Pro have a nice clean design and decent features it will also be sold unlocked for $549 here in the US. Palm has yet to announce a specific date of release, however they have stated it will hit the market in September. Aside from the US, the Treo Pro will also be available through Vodafone and O2 in Europe and through Telstra in Australia.
Palm quietly unveils, then hides the Treo Pro

Palm does not seem to be doing all that well in keeping the hopefully soon to be released Treo Pro under wraps, aside from the few in-the-wild style images, we also saw Palm unveil a few pages on their own website, of course they were quickly taken down.
Well it seems that it has happened again, this time Palm released two official press images and a short video of the Treo Pro in action was also found. Most of the specs are still not 100% official, but we can tell you that the handset will be running Windows Mobile 6.1 and featuring the one-touch on/off Wi-Fi button, GPS and a flush-sitting 320 x 320 display.
Palm Treo Pro; specs, in-the-wild style images

It seems today will be a day of Palm Treo news, earlier today we saw the screenshots from the Palm website showing off the upcoming Treo
Pro, and now they are being quickly followed up with some in-the-wild style images. Thankfully these are coming along with some additional specs as well, we can only hope these get followed up shortly with an accurate release date.
In the meantime continue on to check out the specs below along with some additional pictures:
Palm Treo 850 or the Palm Treo Pro?

Thanks to some recently uncovered pages on the Palm.com website, it seems like the upcoming Treo 850 will actually be the Treo Pro. Of course, as you would imagine, a leaked page like this will quickly be taken offline, which will only further add to the speculation, but thankfully there are some screenshots showing off the new Treo Pro.
These images certainly look quite a bit like the previously leaked images of the Treo 850, and we must say its a nice looking Treo. The few details that we can gather from these images further seem to support the theory that the Treo 850 is the Treo Pro, those specs include a reset button, 3.5mm headphone jack as well as a wireless button on the side with a power button on top. Keep reading to check out a few more images…
Palm enables Bluetooth voice dialing for the Treo 800w

As we mentioned last week, Palm was getting ready to send out the update that would enable Bluetooth voice dialing for the Treo 800w, and that update has since been released.
Current Treo 800w users can head on over to the Palm website and grab the needed update, and take your pick of installation method. The voice dialing update can be applied from a desktop download, an over-the-air download or even using a microSD card. In order to apply this update you need to be running software version TREO800w-1.03-SPNT, you can check your current version by going to Start -> Settings -> About -> Phone Tab.
Overall a small but still worthwhile update to grab, now you can scream into your Bluetooth headset to ‘dial’ your phone, which in turn will hopefully keep the phone out of your hand a little more, especially when driving.
