5 Technology Trends for 2008
We will all have our own views on what will be hot or not in 2008, but this list of 5 areas to look at seems pretty spot on to me:
- The Web To Go - The year for Gears, Air and Silverlight.
- Ultra Mobile PC’s - Building on the Asus EEE, and utilizing flash memory.
- IPTV - With the growth of broadband accessibility and speed expect to see Internet TV grow and grow.
- WIMAX - City, or even country wide high speed wireless connectivity.
- Mobile VOIP - Seamless switch between VOIP, landline and cell phone to get the cheapest calls all the time from one hand set.
If 2008 delivered these 5 I would be very happy indeed.

Digg Trends the next big thing?
A few weeks ago, Kevin Rose posted on the Digg Blog about their new visualization tool (shown above) that allows them (and soon us) to analyze trends on the popular social news site digg.com. After mistyping a URL, I arrived at diggtrends.com, which oddly enough took me to the diggtheblog.blogspot.com (AKA the Digg Blog). Could this be the location that Digg’s new visualization tool will reside?
Check out the videos of Digg’s new tool:

Google product announcements rundown
Google and everyone else has been releasing so many new products and updates that we have missed a few things along the way. In case you didn’t read it anywhere else (don’t worry we don’t mind sharing your time) here is what Google has been up to in the past two weeks:
Google Talk has added 13 new languages to its interface: UK English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, and Turkish.
Google Notebook lets your store and share online content. Read yesterday’s write-up.
Gmail has added pictures to its interface so you can see who sent you your email. Moreover you can choose which picture to see, in case your friend decided to use an image of their ugly dog. Gmail also added a ping sound for when you receive a new email.
Google Co-op lets people and organizations label web pages and create specialized links related to their unique expertise, putting you to work to improve Google’s search results and make the machine more human.
Google Desktop 4 adds “Google Gadgets” (like widgets) deliver more information straight to your desktop.
Google Trends allows you to sort through several years of Google search queries from around the world to get a general idea of everything from user preferences on ice-cream flavors to the relative popularity of politicians in their respective cities or countries.
