Wanna keep tabs on someone? The Zoombak Universal A-GPS Locator will do it for you

by Jodie Andrefski on Nov 15, 2008 at 02:20 PM

zoombak
Oh my, oh my.  Just think of all the not so nice tracking you could do with this little gadget.  The new Zoombak Universal GPS Locator lets you know whenever it enters specific geographical zones.  How very stealthy.  A company spokesperson however, claims that Zoombak “does not condone or recommend that the device be used for those things.“  Ummm…yeah.  I’m sure that will stop its misuse.

What you do is drop it into whatever you want tracked.  (No…I don’t recommend having someone swallow it).  Your kid’s backpack or car is more what they are envisioning for the device.  You know, to make sure they are actually going to school, or to the library to study like they claim.  Or you’re wondering where your girlfriend is really going when she makes those late night runs to the gym?  Voila.  Yeah…you see where this could go, don’t you?

More after the break.

IE just might be going private

by Jodie Andrefski on Aug 20, 2008 at 11:24 PM

IE8

Only ten days left of August. Microsoft claimed Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 would be out some time this month. Well, the countdown is on. And hmmmm…there are rumors flying around that it is going to be a special version. Private. Yeah, code name for “porn mode”.

Private browsing lets a user go anywhere they want without leaving any tracks. It’s like they were just magically never there.  Firefox decided not to go with it, and currently Safari is the only browser sporting this feature. The Mozilla Foundation, however does argue that “although while viewing pornography may be a popular use case due to the nature of content on the Web, assuming that this is the only reason that users need private browsing trivializes the overall feature. For instance, users may wish to begin a private browsing session to research a medical condition, or plan a surprise vacation or birthday party for a loved one.”

If trademark filings are any indications…the rumors of IE taking on private browsing may indeed be based on fact. July 30th filings by Microsoft:

Mobifindr now compatible with BlackBerry

by Leo Blanco on Jul 16, 2008 at 09:05 AM

NAVIZON MOBIFINDR

There’s a relatively new mobile app called Mobifindr which allows you to track your cellphone by simply sending a text message to it. Developed by a company known as the first to combine the power of Wi-Fi, GPS and phone positioning, this set-and-forget software help track your cellphone in case you lose it. Most importantly, you can use this to monitor kids or your naughty lover! Essentially, making alibis will become very difficult with such technology.

There’s a simple video demonstration below on how the system works. Initially, Mobifindr was only available to the ultra-popular iPhone. Now, it is compatible with Blackberry devices. It has a free version which tracks location based on the nearest cell tower or with 1,500 meters accuracy. The premium version worth $25 has an accuracy of 10 to 30 meters.

Navizon, the software developer, is currently tweaking Mobifindr to work with S60 and Window Mobile-powered smartphones. However, there’s no word yet on its official release. Keep reading to check out the video below.

Keruve offers GPS device to help track your loved ones

by Natesh Sood on Jul 14, 2008 at 10:32 PM

Keruve GPS

This new GPS by the Spanish company, Keruve, is a pretty cool one because it basically displays where certain people are located. Basically, you can find out the location of those wearing the special bracelet that it comes with.

The bracelet itself is waterproof and is designed to stay on your wrist, unless you decide to take it off, and that requires the use of a special tool. This is good for those who have Alzheimer’s and your family is trying to look after you, using this bracelet, you can always know where that person is. An alarm even goes off when the battery is low, and the battery life is really good, about three and a half days.

Digital Experience Gadgetell’s “Best of Show”: FindWhere

by JG Mason on Jun 26, 2008 at 02:18 PM

Findwhere logoLast night in NYC, Gadgetell was on hand for the Digital Experience, a tech press event where companies show off their latest and greatest.  Think of it as a condensed mid-year CES event.  The question everyone asked me was, “what is hot here?“.  For me, the answer was pretty easy: FindWhere.

You might remember us getting excited about adding GPS and reporting capabilities to your car we found at CES.  That is all well and fine, but this company has done it for your GPS smartphone.  As more and more phones toss in GPS, unique software solutions abound to help us take advantage out of it.  The company aims their product at two groups: families and enterprise.
