Is the HTC Touch Pro landing with AT&T as the HTC Fuze?

by Robert Nelson on Aug 16, 2008 at 05:39 PM

Is the HTC Touch Pro landing with AT&T as the HTC Fuze?

It looks like AT&T will soon be adding will soon be adding the HTC Touch Pro to its already hot lineup, of course the latest HTC goodness is expected to see a name change and be marketed as the HTC Fuze.

Details are light at the moment, and keep in mind this is still based on speculation and rumor, however sources are claiming the HTC Fuze will be available “sooner rather than later.” As you would expect we have not yet found any information regarding price, but fear not we will keep you up to date as more information comes available.

Will the Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond be red?

by Robert Nelson on Aug 15, 2008 at 02:02 PM

Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond in Red

At this point, although it still has not been officially confirmed we are fully expecting Sprint to release an HTC Touch Diamond in the near future, however these latest images are showing off a newly colored red Diamond. Of course these are likely to be nothing more than a Photoshop hoax, so use your best judgment as to whether they are real or not. Personally they look a bit faked, but considering how many other handsets are appearing in various colors lately, you never know for sure. The latest rumored availability date we have come across is August 28, hopefully (for Sprint users) this date will hold true.

Nokia working on Zune Phone

by JG Mason on Aug 6, 2008 at 12:09 PM

Not much to go on here, but Zunescene is reporting phone giant Nokia is working with the Zune team to gain access to the Zunestore content.  This would be an inroads for Microsoft which current sits atop 0% of Nokia phone OS share.  Clearly, Microsoft wants to get on Nokia phones but is Zune the way to do it?

In my mind -and I am willing to say that I may be alone- Zune is a dead brand.  It represents a me-too attitude that got forgotten before it started. I’ve said before, much to our editor, Robert Nelson’s dismay, the Surface brand would be much better to bring in, especially if touch is the design make up.  Surface is still interesting and full of potential.  Zune, not so much.

So whether MS hopes to get its OS into european hands in a very big way or get their content sales up, it seems from this rumor, Nokia is interested.  Can Nokia resurrect the Zune brand?

HTC Touch Diamond coming to Sprint in August?

by Robert Nelson on Aug 4, 2008 at 08:04 PM

Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond

We first saw that blurry in-the-wild style image back in early-July, and now have some further evidence that the HTC Touch Diamond will soon be heading to Sprint.

The China Post is reporting that it will be arriving, and soon, they have stated that it will be available “through Sprint Nextel Corp. in August.” Sounds like good news for Sprint customers, but keep in mind this is far from an official announcement.

Of course, that previous image coupled with the more recent FCC sighting means that it should be available soon, however at this point all we can do is hope, and wait for the official word to come from Sprint or HTC.

HTC Touch Diamond with US 3G support hits the FCC

by Robert Nelson on Jul 30, 2008 at 06:42 PM

HTC Touch Diamond with US-capable 3G FCC label

It looks like good things come to those will a little patience when it comes to a US-based 3G capable Touch Diamond. We had recently seen a home-brewed ROM update that enabled the 850Mhz frequency on the euro-spec’d Touch Diamond, only to have HTC issue an official update that offered EDGE support over the 850Mhz band. That by itself was good news, but still not what many had been hoping for, however that has recently surfaced at the FCC.

That’s right a US 3G capable Touch Diamond has recently been given the seal of approval from the FCC. Of course we are still not sure when this will make its way to an available status, or even how much it will retail for, but that should all come in time. For now at least we can be sure its coming.

Just to recap some of the features, the Touch Diamond offers a 2.8-inch VGA (480 × 640) touchscreen display, a 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera on the rear with a VGA camera on the front, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, Wi-Fi, eGPS, orientation sensor and an FM radio. It is powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM 7201A processor and is running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with the TouchFLO 3D interface. The Touch Diamond also has 256MB ROM / 192MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a microSDHC card slot for additional storage.

A cheap web tablet in your future?

by JG Mason on Jul 22, 2008 at 12:17 PM

ENTER IMAGE NAME BETWEEN QUOTES - USE ENGLISH NOT FILE NAMING STRUCTURE
It seems for Mike Arrington and the 560+ commenters that there is a desire in the market for a web tablet.  Arrington is proposing they build it as a project and bring it to market themselves in a bold bid to build traffic and a product that many seem to seek.

In truth, what they look to build is an inexpensive ($200) giant iPod touch.  My touch lives in my living room.  I use it to surf the net, play games and be connected whenever I feel like it.  The instant on, quick WiFi and fun operation make it a staple I am not sure I’d be happy living without at this point.

Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond in-the-wild

by Robert Nelson on Jul 2, 2008 at 06:22 PM

Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond in-the-wild

It looks like the first in-the-wild image of a Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond has surfaced, but in keeping with the unofficial rule regarding these images, this one is just as blurry. Well actually I think it is even worse than the normal, but nonetheless it does fit in with the rumor that it is headed to Sprint, so we can only assume that this was not a Photoshop job.

The image comes courtesy of user ksemt7781 from PPCGeeks and was appropriately snapped with another Sprint handset, the Mogul. The Sprint logo is pretty clear, however so is the reflection of the person who took the picture. The Sprint branded Touch Diamond will retain the same features of the currently available model, but it appears that Sprint has made a few tweaks to the TouchFLO 3D interface, which would also be safe to assume because Sprint has a past history of adding their own “features” into already capable handsets.

Gadgetell Hands On: HTC, Samsung, Sony and Blackberry

by JG Mason on Jun 26, 2008 at 12:52 PM

Last night I had the occasion to play around with the new crop of phones put out by the industry’s big players.  It always surprises me how quickly a phone can feel great or not so great in your hand vs staring at it on the screen.  I was shocked at how quickly I hated one of these supposedly sexy models and how much I liked one I really didn’t think I would.  Here is the run down:

HTC Touch Diamond. One word: HOT!  This little phone is very sexy and after I figured out how to turn the bugger on, it was off to the races.  The skin over the Windows Mobile OS is the best yet in terms of speed and functionality.  I’ve played with a few of these skins and this one is rather remarkable.  The screen is very responsive, and it’s tempered glass feels very high end.  It even has a tilt game with feedback as your little ball hits the obstacles.  Overall, I was very impressed with this diminutive phone and could easily see owning this one.

by JG Mason on Jun 5, 2008 at 01:09 PM

A fast week already yet, June 9 can’t seem to come fast enough.  Lucky for us it just not Apple speculation feeding the pipes this week, oh no!  A quick look at the industry shows us just who is on the edge and just who is out there, really out there.  Let’s begin, shall we?
