Ready for the world’s first geotagging video camera?  It’s coming.

by Jodie Andrefski on Sep 30, 2008 at 11:16 AM

geotatecamera“Every breath you take… Every move you make… Every bond you break… Every step you take..  I’ll be watching you.” Is it the end of privacy as we know it?  People knowing where we are, and when we are there, seeing whatever it is we are doing.  Or, just a cool and fun new way to geotag?  Geotagging is nothing new and most of us are familiar with the term by now.  Take a photo, and “tag” your location to tell all your friends or family where you were at when you shot it.  But now, tagged single shots are going to seem like dinosaurs.

Tagcow automatically makes photos searchable through autotagging

by Arnold Zafra on Mar 31, 2008 at 06:03 AM

Tagcow photo tagging

A new web 2.0 service dubbed Tagcow has sprung out of nowhere a couple of days ago. Tagcow, so far has managed to create quite a stir and although Tagcow maybe a cool and useful application, some are questioning the new service, emphasizing on the accuracy of tagging, its usefulness and the never ending question on privacy statements.

In brief, Tagcow is a photo tagging service that automatically assigns descriptive tags to photos that users upload into Tagcow. The service identifies the objects in a given photo, and then assigns generic descriptive tags based on photos subject.

Jeteye bookmarks and tags your web clippings

by Adam Berger on May 20, 2006 at 09:54 PM

Jeteye LogoWhen browsing online we all need a way to organize the vast amount of content that we shuffle through as well as an extra brain to remember the important details. Built as a platform for communication, Jeteye changes how we interact with what we find on the web, providing us with tools to gather, build and share what we collect. Much like the newly announced Google Notebook, but with greater features, Jeteye is easy to use, to organize, communicate or collaborate. Jeteye is both a system download and a distributed web service. Downloading Jeteye enables you to create, send, view and share any type of online content, add notes and annotations and save it all in user organized Jetpaks through a drag and drop interface. Jetpaks can be shared such as Green Day, Brazil Budget Travel, Web 2.0 Picks and Recipes.

AOL to host and search video

by Adam Berger on May 17, 2006 at 05:08 AM

AOL UncutAOL.com has begun searching video from online sources and will soon host video as well. AOL UnCut (currently in open beta) will compete directly against YouTube, Google video and the other online free video hosts.

Videos of up to 5 minutes can be uploaded to the service, and they are then converted to the Flash 8 format (same as YouTube). Like YouTube, videos are rated, commented and shareable. Also, any video may be embedded into another website via a code snippet. The only significant difference between AOL Uncut and YouTube is that YouTube supports tagging, whereas UnCut doesn’t.

Look for a launch in the next week.

Gadgetell Review: Adobe Photoshop Elements

by Adam Berger on Apr 26, 2006 at 06:29 PM

Product: Adobe Photoshop Elements for Windows XP
Price: $99.99 CD, $89.99 download
Rating: Very Good - 8.5/10.0
Pros: Great user interface, ease of use, numerous slide show options, face tagging, scrap-booking, photo sharing.
Cons: Sluggish performance, lacks many Photoshop CE features (as expected).
Overall:Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 one of the best options for digital photographers who want to have an easy time applying creativity, editing, organizing, and sharing their photos but professional graphic designers may be slightly disappointed.

Photoshop Elements 4Photoshop Elements has everything most people need to organize, edit and share digital photos. The software incorporates many of Photoshop’s powerful features without being too overwhelming to the novice user. The user interface is very easy and straightforward for beginners, as well as my day to day Gadgetell operations. How-Tos help users get started, and automated features and the quick help box are great for many tasks, such as editing image size.

The user interface offers three distinct work areas: photo browser, quick fix, and standard edit. Photo browser lets you organize your photos with tags, then search and share them in creations (slide shows, video CDs, cards, email, calendars, Web galleries, and photo books). Quick fix lets you crop, fix red eye, adjust lighting & color, and sharpen with a very useful before/after view. Standard editing tools are used for correcting and enhancing photos, drawing, painting, selecting, and text. Like it’s big brother Photoshop CE, Elements supports multiple layers, layer styles, and adjustment layers providing the same editing flexibility many will be accustomed to. Continue to the remainder of the review.

The photo organizer puts the software over the top for home users, allowing you multiple options for viewing and arranging photos. Some of the coolest new features are face tagging (like Riya), automatic red eye fix, magic extractor, magic selection tool, fix for skin tone. It was also cool to combine multiple photos to create panoramas. You can basically do anything you can imagine and more at the click of a button with Photoshop elements. For the price and the features, it is the best deal you will ever find.

Photoshop Elements is also available for Macs as well as in a bundled package with Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 for video editing.
