Shuttle’s simple KPC 4800 mini desktop shows up
Here’s another entrant to the expanding “nettop” or mini desktop PC market, the Shuttle KPC 4800 which is very similar to the KPC 4500 which was announced by Shuttle last year. This affordable mini desktop PC runs on Foresight Linux but users can choose to upgrade to the 32-bit Windows Vista.
In addition, the KPC 4800 features Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium or even Core 2 Duo processor, 512MB up to 2GB RAM, 80 to 160GB hard drive with provision for dual hard drives, optical drive, several ports for PS/2 keyboard and mouse, Gigabit LAN port, VGA output, D-sub port, serial port, front out connector, real surround out connector, center/base connector, and wireless port perforation.
Pricing for the Shuttle KPC 4800 can go as low as $279 for the basic Linux model and $479 for the Vista-powered units. Of course, you still have to consider the costs of keyboard, mouse and other peripherals that you need to buy to use the mini desktop.
Shuttle annonces new small form factor media PC
Everyone’s favorite small-form-factor PC maker, Shuttle, announced a new Media-centric PC with support for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD playback (does anyone really care about HD-DVD anymore?). The XPC G5 6801M features an AMD Athlon 64 X2 1 GHz processor, an nVidia chipset and runs Microsoft Vista. It packs the usual stuff for a media center PC, such as an LCD front panel and media center remote, 8-channel audio (7.1) and either dual analog tuners, dual T-DMB tuners or a hybrid analog-and-digital tuner, as well as a host of front panel ports, a 25-in-1 memory card reader and up to 4GB of RAM. Most importantly, the system runs cool and quiet thanks to its “Shuttle I.C.E. (Integrated Cooling Engine) advanced I.C.E. Heatpipe technology, linear controlled 92mm fan SilentX cooling and noise reduction technology with Active Airflow”.
Apart from being quiet, small and capable of playing both HD formats (one of which is now extinct), there really isn’t much to get exited about. The Shuttle XPC G5 6801M will be available soon in Europe (perhaps making it States-side in a few weeks) for 1,234 EUR or about $1950.

Shuttle to add new gaming PC to the ranks
Shuttle, the gaming PC leviathans are releasing a new model in advance of next week’s Cebit extravaganza. The device in question is an absolute beast of computer muscle power. The XPC P2 3500G sports a 750GB hard drive with a 32MB cache and an Intel Core 2 Quad Core processor. It is all encapsulated within an Aluminum XPC case, and has enough cooling and ventilation systems to ensure it doesn’t sound like a raucous under your desk every time you load up a game.
Other features include ATI Radeon HD3870 graphics, 2 Firewire and 7 USB ports, a 25-in-1 card reader and best of all a fingerprint scanner, for when you don’t want anyone to destroy your Gamerstats. It should retail for around $2,250. The world awaits.
