It looks like AT&T will soon be getting the S60-powered Nokia E71, of course there will be a slight re-branding—it has been dubbed the Nokia E71x.  Based on the decent reputation that the E71 already has, we can only hope that any changes, and AT&T bloatware will be kept to a minimum.  Currently, as an official announcement has not yet been made, this is still in the rumor stage. That said, these images (above and below) appear to be pretty accurate.  So far the release date is still unknown.  As for the pricing, rumor has it that the E71x will be priced around $150 on a 2-year agreement.

Nokia has taken the mobile world’s centerstage today with the slew of announcements it made during the Nokia Remix event which happened simultaneously in London and Singapore.  An enhanced S60 mobile platform, an online music store a la iTunes and, of course, a new music phone with touchscreen features, a la, well what else, but the iPhone.

The enhanced S60 Mobile Platform

Nokia’s S60 mobile platform which runs on Symbian OS finally gets a much needed upgrade in its 5th iteration.  Key features of this fifth edition S60 is none other than touch UI and support for tactile feedback.  This simply means that Nokia mobile phones using the S60 OS will now have touchscreen features similar to the iPhone. 

Likewise, the S60 is also bringing enhanced web browsing capabilities to the soon to be released S60 mobile phone.  This is made possible through Adobe Flash Lite 3 support.  More details after the break.

Google has just ported its mobile version of Picasa Web Albums to S60-based handsets, similar to the versions featured on the iPhone and Windows Mobile phones. However, the Google Mobile Team did not just tweak Picasa to make it fit with the S60 mobile phones, it also refined the application a bit to fully maximize the power of the S60 phones.

So, with the Picasa Web Album for S60 phones, users can now enjoy the image uploading and web gallery service from Google with added ajaxy goodness, faster browsing and a better user interface as well. Google has even made it available in 36 languages and the previous complicated toolbar was replaced with new much simpler version as well as easy-to-understand icons.

To begin using Picasa Web Albums on your S60-based phone, just point your phones browser to http://picasa.google.com.

Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business International Marketing Director John Starkweather has recently confirmed that talks were taking place between Microsoft and Nokia. Could we possibly see a Windows Mobile based Nokia device in the future? While the talks are there I would not expect to see it, especially anytime soon.

John mentioned that while Nokia has “significant investments in Symbian … there are a lot of places where we have significant synergies and we would love to see the day where those synergies would extend completely with Windows Mobile.“ Of course he later went on to mention that “It’s something we talk about all the time.“ Personally I think if Nokia went with Windows Mobile they would have a lot of angry Symbian fans on their hands.
