Player1’s gamer-friendly CES 2007 list
There were many gamer-friendly gadgets at this year’s CES but, due to technological limits and simple human exhaustion, we couldn’t quite get them all on Gadgetell.
Here a reduced version of the list I compiled for my local CiN Weekly column featuring the better gaming gadgets and announcements from CES 2007. Read on for the list…
- Razer Reclusa gaming keyboard with gold-plated USB plug
- Razer DeathAdder gaming mouse
- Nyko WiiMote charger
- Nyko PS3 wireless controller charger (4 controllers at one time)
- Novint Tech.’s Falcon 3D controller, maybe the weirdest item I found. The pointed mouse floats on robot arms and gives back a bit of resistance so it feels like you are touching the items on your computer.
- Alienware m9750 laptop (bling and caching)
- TDVision Systems’ 3D visor that turns any 2D video into 3D
- Samsung’s Series 53 and 54 LCD HDTVs with increased viewing angles and extras ports for game systems.
- HotSeat Chassis with a metal frame, 23 in. LCD HD widescreen monitors and surround sound. Pricey but dern cool. Frame only kit is $600, full setup can cost $4000.
- PCGamerBike to power your PC and control avatars in compatible games. Coming next month for $1100. Mini version available now for $180.
- D-Box GP-100, the uber plush sound-sensitive chair that reacts to on-screen action. A hard sell for $15K,000.
- N-Gage will become a software package that will work with their NSeries devices and will not be a specific N-Gage branded hardware device (I confirmed this with Nokia).
- Zune will play games by July 2008
- Sony, besides the unfortunate PR blunder, won two Emmys and announced and agreement with Midway to offer more downloadable games.
- Nintendo was a no-show but Wiis were on display everywhere and they won an Emmy for their D-pad.
- Microsoft promoted Vista with the FPS game, Crysis, showed off the Xbox 360 controller working with a Vista PC, console and PC content sharing, a raise in the 50MB download cap on games and some Zune integration.

PCMag’s iPod accessories roundup
A pretty clear theme at this year’s CES was not only home media servers, but also adding a friggin’ iPod dock to virtually everything. With that in mind, PCMag’s iPod accessories roundup also suggests a new remote, an additional screen and some wireless headphones.
- Kensington Entertainment Dock 500 with remote
- DLO HomeDock Deluxe with remote
- Apple iPod Radio Remote
- ATO iSee 360i 3.6 in. screen (only good with Windows-formatted iPods)
- Logitech FreePlus Wireless Headphones via Bluetooth
I wonder if the new products announced at CES will make PCMag’s next list, including Razer’s keyboard with an iPod dock the Belkin iPod adapter that turns an iPod into a remote, or one of my favorites, the vacuum tube speakers with - surprise, surprise - an iPod dock.

Razer’s upcoming cutting-edge peripherals
If you like a little extra bling in your PC peripherals, Razer has a couple computer mice (or is that mouses?), an iPod keyboard and speakers they’re pimpin’ at CES 2007.
First, the tunage. The Razer Mako 2.1 is a bi-amplified speaker system, THX certified with THX Ground Plane and THX Slot Speaker technologies. It has a frequency range of 30 to 20,000 Hz, 6 channels, 300W and includes an amplified headphone port on a wired remote. (BTW: Mako is a type of shark with razer sharp teeth. Get it?)
Next are two gaming mice, the Razer DeathAdder and the Pro|Click. DeathAdder is an 1800 dpi 3G infrared sensor mouse with 1000 Hz Ultrapolling 1 ms response time, and five large, programmable non-slip buttons bundled in a right-hand form factor design (sorry lefties). The Razer Pro|Click Mobile Bluetooth notebook mouse may be just a l’il guy but has a 1600 dpi sensor, an always-on mode, seven (yep, that’s seven) programmable buttons and a gold-plated USB connector.
Finally they have two new keyboards to brag about: The Pro|Type and Reclusa. The Razer Pro|Type is the first keyboard - that I know of - to incorporate an iPod dock. In case you actually need to type with the thing, it includes ten customizable profiles with on-the-fly profile switching, 10 programmable keys and two USB ports (my favorite feature for a new gen keyboard).
The Microsoft Reclusa gaming keyboard that includes two gold-plated USB
ports (snazzy), ambient backlighting, 6 programmable buttons including two 360 degree jog dials, two side bumper buttons (for pinball applications, I presume), blue LED backlit keys (oooh, shiny), and a detachable wrist pad. It will be available March 2007 for $69.95. One feature that will likely be overlooked yet supremely appreciated by gamers on the go is the Smart Cabling System, where the USB cable can be shortened and stowed in the keyboard’s casing.

Zune docks up with the Razer Pro|Type Multimedia Keyboard
Now this product is kind of hard to believe since the Microsoft Zune hasn’t even been officially announced yet, but apparent shots of the Razer Pro|Type Multimedia Keyboard have been released. The keyboard will have a dock for the Microsoft Zune media player, and the other model has docks for your beloved iPods. The keyboard will have 32kB of onboard memory, programmable hotkeys, line-out for audio, and 2 USB ports. The device may or may not drop in November of this year. I’m calling BS on this one, but if someone wants to confirm, send us a tip.
