Bye bye Blockbuster?  Hollywood hearts YouTube?  Um, no.

by JG Mason on Nov 10, 2008 at 08:05 AM

You’ve got to feel bad for YouTube.  After becoming the Internet’s darling for such fun gags, it wants to get a day job.  No longer content with just the clearing house for pranks and short clips, it wants to be in the full length movie business as well as the TV show business.

YouTube served up this kind of content at one time but was forced to take most of it down over copyright claims.  Now YouTube is working with Hollywood to gain their trust and their content.

But it isn’t an easy road.  Sure YouTube has the traffic, 81 million folks in September but they also have the baggage.  And it’s more than just past indiscretions.

Find out what’s next for YouTube.

TomTom annouces new PRO series GPS, includes the 4000, 8000

by Natesh Sood on Aug 21, 2008 at 06:50 AM

TomTom PRO 8000

Recently, TomTom announced the availability of a new “PRO” series with two new GPS units called the TomTom PRO 4000 and TomTom PRO 8000.

The PRO series and the non-PRO series doesn’t have too many differences other than the fact that the PRO series comes with better software and customer service. Otherwise, it includes a two year warranty, menu lock functionality to stop the driver from using the GPS while driving, a protective case, a free mapping update in the first year of purchase, a dedicated customer service line, and PIN lock to keep data private. Additionally, the main difference between the 4000 and the 8000 is that the 8000 comes with something called IQ Routes, meaning the system chooses the best available route based on driving times and other driving data, Advanced Lane Guidance, Voice Address Input, and Bluetooth connectivity.

No word on when these two GPS units will be available, however, the PRO 4000 will cost $330, and the PRO 8000 will cost $460.

Palm, once again has announced the Treo Pro, of course it seems this time it was made official, as they have released a press release, promo video and also added the newly designed Treo to their website.

This release is actually pretty exciting for a Treo, not only does the Pro have a nice clean design and decent features it will also be sold unlocked for $549 here in the US. Palm has yet to announce a specific date of release, however they have stated it will hit the market in September. Aside from the US, the Treo Pro will also be available through Vodafone and O2 in Europe and through Telstra in Australia.

Palm Treo 850 or the Palm Treo Pro?

by Robert Nelson on Aug 15, 2008 at 08:21 AM

Palm Treo 850 or the Palm Treo Pro

Thanks to some recently uncovered pages on the Palm.com website, it seems like the upcoming Treo 850 will actually be the Treo Pro. Of course, as you would imagine, a leaked page like this will quickly be taken offline, which will only further add to the speculation, but thankfully there are some screenshots showing off the new Treo Pro.

These images certainly look quite a bit like the previously leaked images of the Treo 850, and we must say its a nice looking Treo. The few details that we can gather from these images further seem to support the theory that the Treo 850 is the Treo Pro, those specs include a reset button, 3.5mm headphone jack as well as a wireless button on the side with a power button on top. Keep reading to check out a few more images…

Apple Store comes back online with new MacBook, MacBooks Pro’s

by Robert Nelson on Feb 26, 2008 at 09:13 AM

Apple updates the MacBook and MacBook Pro Lineups

In keeping with what seems like a Tuesday tradition for 2008, Apple has once again given us all something new. The store went down, the speculation began and with the return came some updated MacBook and MacBook Pro’s, both of which will be available immediately.

Starting with the MacBook line, they were given a speed boost along with more storage. The MacBook line still consists of the three “base” models and now offer the white model with either a 2.1 or 2.4 GHz processor with a 120GB and 160GB hard drive as the standard. The black model will offer the 2.4 GHz processor along with a standard 250GB hard drive. The MacBook also ships with 1GB of RAM on the low end and 2GB standard on the higher spec’d white model and black model, all three can handle up to 4GB total RAM. Pricing on the MacBook’s remain the same as before, which was $1,099, $1,299 and $1,499.
