Gadgetell Podcast 18: Live from CES, it’s Saturday night 1/6/2007
Gadgetell has landed safely in Las Vegas for the world’s largest trade show, CES. We unpacked our gear, got an early peak at some new gadgets and are ready to roll! Check out our recap of tonight’s activities and a small preview for the rest of the week. Doug and I debate HD audio, Greg drools over some Shure earphones, and we let you know what we are most looking forward to. Don’t worry this is only the first podcast of many for this week and they will get better as we go, just don’t get behind…

FeedYourZune before Microsoft supports podcast subscriptions
I know for me, one big turn-off of the Microsoft Zune is the lack of Podcast support. Until now you had to use a program that was made for the iPod - which could cause some potential issues with the Zune. For those of you that are keeping your distance from the Zune due to its lack of Podcast support, we’ve got the perfect download for you. The guys over at FireAnt.tv developed an application that was “DESIGNED FOR ZUNE” called FeedYourZune. The freeware application is a “full featured RSS reader and Podcast Media Player.” Read on for more features.
Features:
- Automated download and syncing of Audio and Video Podcasts to your Zune.
- Full featured RSS video playback. Supports all video formats.
- Discover thousands of amazing Video and Audio Podcasts with the built-in Channel Guides from Network2, FireAnt, and more to come!
- Open web architecture: supports RSS, BitTorrent, and Blog Permalinks.
- Create playlists, favorites, manage disk space, and more…
Gadgetell Podcast 17: Giddy over Gadgetell v2 11/8/2006
We promised the redesign would come...now it has finally arrived, but that doesn’t stop business as usual. If you stop for too long you may miss out on the Wii preorders and just have to settle for a Microsoft Live update including 1080p support. Like our current v2 contests, Cingular customers are being rewarded with a low-end Treo, a 3G world-smartphone, and a rather robust music service. Verizon customers, on the other hand, may end up becoming more addicted to YouTube. We also had a chance to discuss Vista, Gmail, the MacBook and Pro, and the most anticipated electronics day of the year. Check it out…

Samson’s portable Podcast studio
Back at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo, Samson (not a typo) showed off its new pocket audio recorder, the Zoom H4 Handy Digital Recorder. The device has two condenser microphones that are positioned for stereo audio recording. According to TG Daily, the H4 is “slightly smaller than a paperback book” and decked out with buttons and switches along its sides. If you’re not down with using the internal mics, the H4 has inputs for your standard XLR or 1/4” external mics. You can record 24-bit/96 KHz audio at up to 320 kb/s sampling rate.
The H4 records in WAV or MP3 format straight onto any SD card. The battery life is around 4 hours (way more than enough for your average podcast). Look out for it this week, because the Zoom H4 is shipping for $300.

Gadgetell Podcast 14: Exclusive interview with PerSecondPodcast

This week we called up all the guys over at PerSecondPodcast. We talked to them about transforming the million dollar homepage to ”the million dollar podcast.” Not only are these guys trying to make money to pay for school buy selling podcast space but they are also trying to keep a record of today’s media by locking it up on the ground of Yale. Additionally, learn why this isn’t only a ploy to make money but how they are helping out new artists as well as where else you will be able to hear these podcast besides on your PC or iPod.

Nokia offers podcasts on the move
Love to listen to podcast but you don’t want to be tied down to your computer? Nokia no longer requires you to sit in front of your computer to choose your podcasts. You can listen to podcasts from your handset (you can download them using wireless LAN or GPRS/WCDMA for the N91) without ever attaching your phone to your computer.
The Nokia Podcasting application allows you to find, subscribe to and download podcasts over the air with your Nokia N91. After downloading a podcast, you can listen to or watch it when you want. As with most MP3 players, you can download podcasts on your PC and transfer them to your Nokia N91 via Windows Media Player or Nokia PC Suite. You can also download podcasts directly to your Nokia N91 without using your PC at all.

PodZinger to power Rocketboom
PodZinger , the only podcast search engine that enables full-text search, announced the company has been selected by Internet video pioneer Rocketboom to power and host their search results. Using PodZinger’s video search tool, Rocketboom visitors are now able to search the entire library of Rocketboom video to find specific videos and segments of interest to them.
Rocketboom is a three-minute daily videoblog based in New York City. The site covers and creates a wide range of information and commentary from top news stories to quirky Internet culture. It is currently one of the most popular videoblogs on the Internet with more daily subscribers for original syndicated multimedia content than nearly any other site, including podcasts.
PodZinger uses speech-to-text technology to create a text index of the audio, which enables users to find content anywhere within podcasts and jump directly to the point where their keyword is spoken. For partners like Rocketboom, PodZinger licenses its engine to the partner for use on their site. Without leaving the site, visitors are then able to take advantage of PodZinger’s innovative technology to search the partner’s audio and/or video content. For potential partners, this arrangement increases the amount of time visitors stay on the site, helping to build brand loyalty.
