Gadgetell Hands On: Clickfree back up for dummies

by JG Mason on Jun 26, 2008 at 06:45 PM

ClickFree nails simplicity
Forget everything you know about your computer.  Now, take this disc and put in your DVD writable drive and whammo you’ve just backed up your iTunes collection.  Sweet right?  No clicking, no registering, no signing on.

Simplicity is everything behind ClickFree, a foolproof tool for those not intimate with storage solutions.  Selling now at places like Best Buy, ClickFree has hopes on tapping the dummie market (which means everyone not reading Gadgetell).  The concept is simple, the product is simple, the hardest part will be ensuring you have a writable DVD drive.

Leaked press photo’s; its the LG VX8610 Decoy from Verizon Wireless

by Robert Nelson on May 24, 2008 at 01:57 PM

LG VX8610 Decoy from Verizon Wireless

Typically we see the press style photos turning up first with the live-style images showing up second, however in the case of the LG VX8610 Decoy from Verizon Wireless it was exactly the opposite.

These are nice crisp, clear press style images showing off the upcoming LG VX8610 Decoy in all its glory. The Decoy, while a basic looking slider style from the front, has a unique little trick hidden on the back in the form of a “built-in” Bluetooth headset. Although the details are still unconfirmed it looks like the Decoy is expected to become available in June.

Keep reading to check out a few more images of the LG VX8610 Decoy.

Identities of busted Mac laptop thieves revealed

by David Gonzales on May 12, 2008 at 01:04 PM

Identities of busted Mac laptop thieves revealed

If there’s anything I’ve learned about Apple, in all these years of reading, and just recently, writing about them, it’s that you don’t mess with them. Ever. That’s a lesson a lot of would-be Apple product burglars would do good in learning, lest they want to be the ones pictured and talked about in this article here. The two men you see here are the burglars that we reported about previously, responsible for stealing flat-screen TVs, computer games, iPods, DVDs, a box of liquor and even a set of car rims from an apartment shared by three roommates. The one on top is Edmon Shahikian, while the one on the bottom is Ian Frias. They were apprehended shortly after the owner of one of their stolen wares, a Mac laptop, used the Back To My Mac feature to photograph them and show their photos to the police. I wonder when anyone will be able to do that with their Windows lappies.

Kenko’s digital photo frame makes remote even harder to find

by David Gonzales on May 6, 2008 at 10:49 PM

Kenko Digital Frame

Kenko’s new digital photo frame might seem like your regular digital photo frame at first, but the KDF-07 holds a secret that could change the way you look at gadgets of its kind...forever. Or not, but still the Kenko KDF-07 offers a cool little trick hidden (quite literally) up its sleeve. Actually, it holds a control pad on a secret panel that can be found behind its silver frame, black matte, and wood grain finishes. It will instantly blow up your photos to 7-inches wide and play them in a slideshow - with your permission, of course. I’d like to say that its current price, $160, is a bit too much, but then I remember, $500 digital photo frames. At which point I’ll say, “Yikes! Kenko’s KDF-07 is actually a bargain!”

Panasonic intro’s the Lumix TZ50 to the US market

by Arnold Zafra on Apr 21, 2008 at 01:15 AM

Panasonic Lumix TZ50

Panasonic has launched the Lumix TZ50 digital camera in the US market, and as speculated when it was released in Japan last month, the camera will support direct photo uploads to Google’s Picasa web albums. Unfortunately, there is no support for direct upload to Yahoo’s Flickr site. But the the US release of the camera still sports the same features we mentioned in our coverage for its Japanese release. This include a 9.1-megapixel CCD, 28mm wide-angle lens, 10x optical zoom, HD video support, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g connectivity.

Flickr adds video, 90-seconds at at time

by Robert Nelson on Apr 9, 2008 at 09:51 AM

Flickr has added video to the ever-popular photo sharing site, albeit with some initial limitations. The videos that are uploaded can be a maximum of 90 seconds and must be 150MB in size or smaller. Videos are also limited to be uploaded only by Pro users, but can be viewed by anyone, as long as the video is marked public, they can also be uploaded and marked as private.

Overall Flickr is taking an approach that leaves little difference between the existing photos and new videos, in fact they were noted as being called “long photos.” Which makes sense because the videos are side by side with your photos and while the videos do have their limitations, once you get used to them they seem to be a really nice addition.

Pandigital releases Pantouch digital photo frames with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi

by Arnold Zafra on Apr 4, 2008 at 04:46 PM

Pandigital Pantouch

Pandigital has joined the touchscreen frenzy with its PanTouch digital photo frame lineup. Touting a smudge free touchscreen display, PanTouch has a special frame matting that will resist fingerprints in the viewable area and also allow for easy control and quick access to its operations. The new frames are available with a 7-inch, 8-inch or 10.4-inch display and feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for transferring photos from the digital frame to a PC.

The 7-inch and 8-inch models both have 15:9 widescreen ratio with a resolution of 428 x 234, 128MB of internal memory, 6-in-1 memory card reader, a standard USB port and a mini USB port. Plus, it doesn’t just display digital photos but it can play digital music and videos as well. The 10.4-inch on the other hand would likely appeal to the more serious photo enthusiasts as it offers a nicer 1024 x 768 resolution and 512MB of internal memory.

The PanTouch lineup is set for release in May and are expected to retail for $119 for the 7-inch, $169 for the 8-inch and $249 for the 10.4-inch model.

Tagcow automatically makes photos searchable through autotagging

by Arnold Zafra on Mar 31, 2008 at 06:03 AM

Tagcow photo tagging

A new web 2.0 service dubbed Tagcow has sprung out of nowhere a couple of days ago. Tagcow, so far has managed to create quite a stir and although Tagcow maybe a cool and useful application, some are questioning the new service, emphasizing on the accuracy of tagging, its usefulness and the never ending question on privacy statements.

In brief, Tagcow is a photo tagging service that automatically assigns descriptive tags to photos that users upload into Tagcow. The service identifies the objects in a given photo, and then assigns generic descriptive tags based on photos subject.

by Arnold Zafra on Mar 27, 2008 at 11:36 PM

Kodak M820 M1020 digital photo frames

Kodak has released two new digital photo frames, the 8-inch M820 and the 10-inch M1020. In addition to displaying photo’s both frames can also play videos and MP3’s, have two memory card slots and has Kodak’s quick touch border with back lighting.

Kodak’s Quick Touch Border with back lighting helps users in viewing and scrolling digital photos. It prevents the main display from getting smudged by the user’s finger. To make it even easier to navigate through the photos, the digital photo frames touch panel is equipped with yellow lighting illuminates to tell users which part of the digital frame to touch. The digital frames also allow users to create, edit and view the photos in slideshows.

Panasonic intro’s the Lumix TZ50, an upgraded Lumix TZ5 with Wi-Fi

by Arnold Zafra on Mar 19, 2008 at 01:18 PM

Panasonic Lumix TZ50 digital camera

Panasonic has announced the Lumix TZ50, a Wi-Fi enabled digital camera that looks and performs like the previously released Lumix TZ5. The 10x optical zoom, the 3-inch LCD and the appearance of the Lumix TZ50 are reminiscent of the older Lumix TZ5. But that’s not saying that the Lumix TZ50 has nothing better to offer. The Lumix TZ50 is a powerful digital camera in itself besides having built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.
