Palm pulling out of agreement with PalmSource for next gen PalmOS

by Doug Berger on Jul 30, 2006 at 11:38 PM

Palm LogoAfter much hype surrounding PalmSource’s ALP (operating system) for the Treo, it looks like Palm has decided to pull out of the co-development agreement.  According to Palm’s annual report, “PalmSource did not timely meet certain of the milestones under the co-development agreement, relieving us of our obligation to make minimum royalty payments under the license agreement after calendar year 2006.” This shouldn’t put too much of a damper on the relationship between the two companies since they’re already in “negotiations with PalmSource to expand our development and distribution rights to the current version of the Palm OS.” Sounds a little like Palm’s looking to begin development of the OS on their own, leaving PalmSource in the dust.

Circuit City confused over difference between 700p and 700w

by Doug Berger on Jun 17, 2006 at 10:16 PM

Treo 700p

Having a good attention to detail can sometimes be amusing.  I was in Circuit City today and was checking out the Verizon phones (since they don’t have Sprint for me) and noticed a poster right by the entrance with a rather large mistake… so I snapped a picture on my phone.  The device pictured above is, as most of us know, the Palm Treo 700p.  Apparently the person that made the poster didn’t realize that there’s a difference between the 700p (PalmOS) and 700w (Windows Mobile 5.0).
