Nokia releases updated OS2008 for N800, N810
Nokia has just released an updated version of OS2008, the operating system for both the N800 and N810 Internet tablets. Going by the codename of “Diablo” it consists of a few small bug fixes, some small updates and also a few new features.
The updated version is free for all current N800, N810 owners, however this update still requires users to “reflash the device in order to install this release.” One of the nice features is that this update brings the promise of future updates to come over-the-air, which means this should be the last reflash. Moving forward any OS updates, or applications updates will be offered via a notification on the home screen.
In addition the OS2008 update will also add a new email application called Modest, an updated mailbox setup wizard, as well as Chinese character support. The smaller fixes included the operating system in general, openssl and an improvement to the browser panning.
Sounds like a good time for current owners to upgrade, as always we would suggest backing up anything important before you begin the process, just in case.

Nokia’s WiMAX enabled N810 gets the FCC treatment
Sure, we have all most likely seen Nokia’s N810 WiMAX Edition by now, and while it looks nice and shiny on the outside, its always fun to see just what the guts look like. It’s just that most people who will be willing to plunk down their $455 to purchase one are most likely not going to be quite as willing to open it up to really check it out. However, now you can rest assured, the FCC has provided us with these great internal shots, which means you can keep yours safe—and in good working order. Nothing new was revealed in the FCC docs, as expected the N810 WiMAX Edition is still expected to be available around July. In the meantime keep reading for a few more internal shots…
Nokia N810 WiMax Edition gets listed, priced at Buy.com
Buy.com has already listed the Nokia N810 WiMax Edition on their site. The N810 is currently listed for $455 with a suggested retail of $479, but as we would expect, is not currently in stock. The listing, although a little early seems to fit the time frame as Nokia announced it would be available beginning in the summer of 2008, however we cannot help but remember that the WiMax coverage would be delayed. Think I can hold off buying a device that is built specifically for a technology that is not even available.

Nokia demo’s upgraded OS2008 during CTIA
In addition to unveiling their N810 WiMAX Edition, Nokia has also demo’d their latest operating system, OS2008 during CTIA. The new WiMAX Edition tablet will ship with the latest OS pre-installed and it will also be offered as a free upgrade to current N810 and N800 owners. OS2008 is expected to be available during Q2 2008.
The new operating system will feature improvements to include a new “Seamless Software Update” which is said to remove the need to manually update software which includes both the operating system and also third party programs. Other improvements include a full-featured Mozilla based web browser, an enhanced e-mail client and added support for Chinese character rendering in the browser and RSS feeds among others. Overall, it should be a nice upgrade for current N800 and N810 owners.
