Yahoo finally getting their act together
Earlier this week we heard the news of Jerry Yang resigning as CEO of Yahoo, the result of a painfully disappointing year for the company that saw failure after failure. They have watched their grip on Internet search slip through their fingers and they are in danger of slipping into the worlds of anonymity and the pages of history. However, things are looking good for Yahoo fans with two positive pieces of news.
One Search
They are both an attempt to fight back at Google’s search domination, both in the mobile phone and PC sectors. The first is a deal sealed with T-Mobile with the “One Search” button. Yahoo have been poor at closing deals recently; however, this catch is definitely one that should help them in the future. T-Mobile has agreed to put the One Search button on their phones, thus allowing users to quickly get to a search engine and helping Yahoo by making it theirs.
Find out what else is in Yahoo’s plans to fight the Google empire after the break.
Aspire one to overtake Eee
![]()
Asus set a target of 5 million units of its Eee PC netbook to be sold this year, which they appear to be reaching. The only problem is that shipments of the Acer Aspire One are creeping towards its ambitious target of 6 million sales, 20% more than the Eee PC.
The title of “best selling netbook” is one that Asus will be incredibly reluctant to give up as it was mainly them who came up with the netbook idea, and it has been through them that the craze has spread. However the numbers do not lie, Asus only shipped 1.7 million in the third quarter while Acer managed 2.4 million, and advantage they intend to continue into the fourth quarter with predicted sales to exceed this quarter.
Elonex to introduce a $200 Linux based UMPC

With the Linux-based ultra-mobile market heating up, it seems like everyone is wanting to have an offering. The latest is coming from Elonex, except this one does not appear to be that Eee PC killer that everyone is looking for. The price, if it is actually released at what it is anticipated at will be nice, it is expected to retail for £100 (about $200). Elonex plans to introduce the One to education markets, but will also be marketed to “adult learners, business users, people who are constantly mobile, elderly people and first time internet users.“
The Elonex One will feature a 7-inch 800x480 display, a 300 MHz X86 processor, 1GB of flash memory, three hours of battery life, weighing 2.2 pounds and running Linux. There will also be a more expensive version costing £120 that will include 2GB of flash memory and also Bluetooth.
