Kodak rolls out the first OLED Wireless Digital Picture Frame

by Mark Rollins on Sep 17, 2008 at 03:19 PM

Kodak OLED display
Digital picture frames have been sweeping the market, and so is OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology.  I suppose it was just an obvious to mix the two, and Kodak is the first as the company just unveiled the wireless OLED digital picture frame.

As you can see, the OLED screen is quite thin.  I don’t have measurement of its thickness (or thinness), but considering the OLED from Sony debuted at CES at 0.3mm, then this one from Kodak is probably millimeters thin.

More info on the Kodak OLED frame after the break.

Samsung; testing geek pulse with conceptual OLED laptop due in 2009

by Debbie Cook on May 18, 2008 at 04:21 PM

Samsung OLED laptop

If Samsung is testing geek reaction to it’s sleek and extremely thin laptop slated to appear possibly in 2009 (or hopefully sooner) this picture does the trick. Wow!

At first glance this shiny black (accented with racy red) laptop elicits increased heart rates and drool. When composure returns however there are important questions that have to be asked. What is that 3rd piece leaning against that 12.1-inch gorgeous razor thin OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display? My guess – it is a protective cover that doubles as a support. How to you control the cursor? Is there room for a battery? This is a laptop – right?

The touch-sensitive keyboard continues the sleek appearance but some worry that the non-tactile feel will be a real let down. Let down maybe but probably not a deal breaker.

Numerous unanswered questions have not squelched anticipation. Samsung has turned up the heat a bit by mentioning a 15.4-inch model in 2009 as well. Does that mean we will see one of these beauties in the near(er) future?

by Arnold Zafra on Mar 31, 2008 at 09:41 AM

LG-LH5000 Ice Cream

LG has upgraded its previously released mobile phone LG-LH5000 with 3 new exciting flavors – vanilla, strawberry and pistachio. I know it sounds ridiculous and you might think that I must be kidding, but actually I’m not. LG has really introduced three new

colors

flavors for the LH5000. Hopefully, you don’t get it to it thinking that you are actually holding an ice cream.

The LG-LH5000 ice cream phone is a thin flip-phone that boasts 3G connectivity, a 2.2-inch color display with QVGA resolution and 2.2-megapixel camera. The LH5000 ice cream phone lasts through 140 hours of standby time and 150 minutes talk time. The LG ice cream phone also sports an LED lighting in the keypad area which complements the different colors of the phone.

Other than this, there’s not much information available for the LG ice cream phone. The LG-LH5000 is currently available only in Korea.

Samsung’s Display is Organic

by XXJacob Boxford on Apr 27, 2006 at 11:28 AM

Samsung A960This is a unique looking Samsung cell phone, with an OLED display on the outside cover.  What is an OLED?  It stands for organic light emitting diode.  The OLED has been around for a few years, and includes a very thin LED layer made up of an organic material.

Samsung has not announced which cell service will be used, but rumor is that it will be Sprint.  With a 1.3 mega pixel camera, a microSD memory slot, and video and music on demand, it looks like it will be a good device.  The analog clock look on the outside cover mixes high tech with old-school.

Other applications are also be considered.  Arctechnica talks about the application of the OLED technology in many other applications, which are even more interesting than the cell phone display.  They talk about a transparent version of the OLED, which can be used for heads-up displays for cars and for surgeons.  The applications are unlimited for OLED, especially if it brings down the cost of LED TVs into the hundreds of dollars instead of thousands.
