Sotec to launch AMD-powered WinBook WV laptops in Japan

by David Gonzales on May 6, 2008 at 09:54 AM

AMD-powered WinBook WV laptops

If you’re not that much of a techie, and just aim for variety in most of your so-called “gadgets,” you might be enticed in considering Sotec, Japan’s newest wonder, an Athlon 64 X2 powered little lappie called the WinBook WV. You did want a laptop now, didn’t you?

Reading my write-up about its specs would be the modern-day equivalent of watching caveman paintings dry, but if you must really know, it will have a 1.90GHz Athlon 64 X2 TK-57 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 15.4-inch LCD (1280x800 screen resolution) and 2.9 hours of manufacturer-rated battery life. Wi-Fi b/g will be built-in as standard, and it also comes provided with 120GB of storage in a hard disk drive that I’m sure you’ll love to destroy at a later time.

How much for a piece? Only €610 or about $950 USD for you, because you’re a friend. Hurry, before all those bloggers consume all the stocks!

by Robert Nelson on Apr 29, 2008 at 05:45 PM

Dell XPS M1330 and M1530 notebooks in Flamingo Pink

Dell has just added what they are calling a new “Spring” color for their XPS M1330 and M1530 notebooks, and what would seem to be perfect timing to potentially grab some Mothers Day sales; Flamingo Pink. According to Dell, “It was an easy decision” to add the new pink color because “while customers appreciate the sleek, no-nonsense XPS look, they also wanted a wider variety in color options.” In addition to the new pink, the M1330 and M1530 will still be available in the previous Midnight Blue, Tuxedo Black or Product (RED). With so many new tech items becoming available in a shade on pink, its almost become a standard color now.

Asus to release 10-inch Eee PC later this year

by Arnold Zafra on Apr 21, 2008 at 09:09 AM

Asus Eee PC

It looks like a 10-inch version of the Asus Eee PC will be coming our way later this year. None other than Asustek CEO Jerry Shen stated they are already working on a new Eee PC with a larger display.

“The feedback we’ve received from users has been great. Many have asked us for bigger screens and better usability. That’s what made us start developing the Eee PC 900. People are asking for bigger keypads and more software as well, issues the company continues to work on,” said Mr. Shen.

Lenovo’s U110 IdeaPad ultra-portable coming soon

by Robert Nelson on Apr 17, 2008 at 12:01 PM

Lenovos U110 IdeaPad

The Lenovo U110B and U110R will soon be available in the US, or so it would seem based on some recent listings at online retailer J&R. The small, but fully functional notebooks from Lenovo are a little more on the high-end side as compared to the recent rash of low-cost offerings we have been seeing, and would fit more in line with the X300 or MacBook Air.

Both the U110B and U110R offer similar features, but have a different color on the outer shell, the “B” is the black model, while the “R” is the red model. Aside from the color, the notebooks will both feature an 11.1-inch widescreen display with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo L7500 processor, 3GB of RAM, 120GB hard drive, 1.3-megapixel webcam and be running Windows Vista. The U110 will also include the standard variety of ports and connectivity which include a Wi-Fi 802.11a/g/n, Ethernet, Bluetooth, three USB ports, one Firewire, VGA-out and a built-in card reader.

The laptops weigh in at just 2.3-pounds, are only 0.7-inches high and are reported to have a battery that can offer up to 8-hours of life. Of course with all these goodies comes a decent price tag, the U110 IdeaPad will retail for $1,999.

The brightly colored Airis Kira 100 joins the ultraportable notebook market

by Arnold Zafra on Apr 16, 2008 at 11:38 PM

Airis Kira 100

The Airis Kira 100, an ultraportable notebook sporting two traditional colors and two unusual colors has been released in Germany. The Airis Kira 100 looks similar to the previously released Norhtec Gecko which was being touted as an Asus Eee PC competitor. The Airis Kira 100 and Norhtec Gecko may have several things in common, but both are nonetheless two distinct notebooks with different specs.

The Airis Kira 100 was released in four color variants, the usual black and white colors as well as the brighter pink and white, and black and yellow combinations. It is currently available in Germany with a retail price of around $471. The notebook comes with a 7-inch display with a 800 x 480 resolution, 1GHz VIA C7 mobile processor, VGA output, Ethernet, 56kbps modem, multi-card reader and webcam. In addition, the Airis Kira 100 is powered by Linpus Linux Lite OS, weighs 2.2-pounds and measures in at 9.5 x 6.7 x 1.1-inches.

Yet another Eee PC competitor; Fukato intro’s the Datacask Jupiter

by Arnold Zafra on Apr 15, 2008 at 08:18 PM

Fukato Datacask Jupiter

The Asus Eee PC’s got a new competitor all the way from Germany with Fukato’s Datacask Jupiter. Sporting an inch bigger LCD display as that of the original Eee PC, the Datacask Jupiter still offers the same 800 x 480 resolution. What’s good about the Datacask Jupiter is that it does not pretend to be something different from the Asus Eee PC. From the looks and feature alone, the Datacask Jupiter is very much a copycat of the Eee PC. Well except of course for the 20GB hard drive.

The Datacask Jupiter will be offered for a low price of $440 and feature a 500 MHz AMD Geode LX processor, 20GB 1.8-inch hard drive, 512MB of RAM, Linux OS, 3 hour battery time, Wi-Fi and a 3 year warranty package. The Fukato Datacask Jupiter will be available in the German market sometime in May.
