Rogers now offering the Nokia E71 for $49

Following up on the recent announcement that Rogers would soon begin offering the Nokia E71, it seems that it is now available, and at a very nice price. The Rogers branded E71 will be available for just $49. Of course, in order to get that low price, you should be willing to accept the three-year agreement that comes along with it.
Additionally, customers also need to choose a $45 a month (or higher) voice and data plan. As for that low price, it appears to be “promotional.“ No date has been given as to when it will increase and although the non-promotional price has not been announced (it is expected to be $99). The E71, as we have seen in the past features a full QWERTY keyboard, 320 x 240 display, aGPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM, a microSD card slot, microUSB and a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash.

Nokia officially unveils the high-end N97

Nokia has unveiled a new flagship phone during the recent Nokia World 2008 event—the N97, and according to Nokia it is the “world’s most advanced mobile computer.“ So, just what is the N97 packing that will make it the most advanced? Well, it seems that Nokia has packed the N97 about as full as they could. To begin with, the N97 has a 3.5-inch touchscreen display with a (16:9) 640 x 360 resolution, a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and an incredible 32GB of built-in memory with a microSD card slot for added expansion.
Other features of the N97 will include HSDPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, Bluetooth, a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and video capture, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a TV-out. The N97 will be running S60 5th Edition. With a nice overall feature set, the N97 also has the power to back it up, it will offer up to 320 minutes of 3G talk time and up to 400 hours of standby. Additionally it will also allow for up to 37 hours of music playback and 4.5 hours of video playback in an offline mode.
As for pricing and availability, the N97 is expected to retail for €550 (around $694 US) and will be shipping sometime in the first half of 2009.

Nokia’s unlocked N85 now available with Amazon

We first saw the reports that the Nokia N85 would be heading to the US a few months back and now it looks like it has almost made an appearance. Well, technically it is available for you to purchase. However it is currently listed with a 2 to 4 week shipping time, so it will be a little while before you will have it in-hand. The listed N85 comes in Copper and is unlocked for use in the US. The one drawback here is the price—$555.59.
Of course, while it sounds expensive, it really is not out of the normal price range for unlocked phones, it is also much nicer looking than the $1,200 list price. Given that, it almost seems like you are getting a bargain. Just as a refresher, the Nokia N85 features a 5-megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi and has a 2.6-inch AMOLED QVGA display. It is also running S60 and has support for 3G.

iPhone is number 1 in mobile ads
We all know the iPhone has become quite popular. Just look around next time you’re in a place with a lot of people—whether it be a subway, train station, airport, city street or college campus, chances are you’ll see at least one person with an iPhone walking around. They almost seem to mock those of us who are stuck with Verizon or other carriers that aren’t AT&T (well, until the Storm, that is). There are actual numbers to prove that the iPhone is popular: mobile ad traffic.
According to AdMob, an ad network for mobile websites and apps, the iPhone is the leader in ad traffic for mobile devices. It holds 4.1 percent of ad requests for October. That doesn’t sound like much, but it comes out to 236 million requests in one month. In July, it was only 28 million requests. Of those 236 million requests, 62.8 percent were from the U.S. That’s pretty impressive considering the iPhone is still the number 2 phone in the U.S., behind the Motorola RAZR. 5 percent of the requests came from the UK, with another 8 percent coming from all of Asia. AT&T branded Nokia E71 spotted in-the-wild

It looks like AT&T will soon be getting the S60-powered Nokia E71, of course there will be a slight re-branding—it has been dubbed the Nokia E71x. Based on the decent reputation that the E71 already has, we can only hope that any changes, and AT&T bloatware will be kept to a minimum. Currently, as an official announcement has not yet been made, this is still in the rumor stage. That said, these images (above and below) appear to be pretty accurate. So far the release date is still unknown. As for the pricing, rumor has it that the E71x will be priced around $150 on a 2-year agreement.

Rogers announces Nokia E71 upcoming availability

Rogers has just confirmed the upcoming availability of the Nokia E71 smartphone. The details are still pretty light, so far Rogers has simply stated that the “highly anticipated Nokia E71 smartphone will be coming soon to Canada.“ Still unknown is the price and release date, but the brief announcement may be reason enough for Rogers customers looking for a 3G handset that is not a Bold or an iPhone to hold off just a little bit.
As for specs, the Nokia E71 features a 320 x 240 display, 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM, a microSD card slot, aGPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, microUSB, a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash and a full QWERTY keyboard.

New Nokia E63 hits the scene trying to un-Blackberry the masses
Following on the heels of its big brother the E71, Nokia just released its newest in their E-Line, the E63. It’s a candybar style phone shooting to bring “the QWERTY keyboard form factor to a broader audience at a great price” according to the Nokia website.
Unfortunately, Nokia isn’t telling too much about the inner workings of the phone or what all makes it different from the E71 quite yet. What we do know is that what Nokia is using as its big draw is being able to switch back and forth with a single key press between the corporate e-mail and calendar mode with the personal mode which features e-mail, websites and photos. Nokia also serves up 1GB of cloud storage on Ovi when you buy the E63. And of course, there is the obvious Wi-Fi connectivity. . . .
Nokia losing ground to Apple, RIM in the smartphone marketshare
![]()
No kidding, right? I think maybe everyone but Nokia saw it coming. Or maybe they did too…just not at this drastic of a level.
According to the popular market research firm Canalys, Nokia’s market share dropped down to 38.9 percent in the third quarter; which is down from 51.4 just a year earlier. On the other hand, Apple jumped to 17.3 percent, and RIM increased to 15.2 the same quarter.
Canalys credits some of the Apple and RIM increases to new phones and new marketing strategies. In a statement, the firm said “"The introduction of the iPhone 3G in July and Apple’s expansion into many more countries helped propel the vendor to second place globally.“ Continued.
The BH-804 is Nokia’s smallest Bluetooth headset

Recently, Nokia has announced a new Bluetooth headset called the BH-804. Now, if you’re wondering why Nokia is making a splash out of this new product instead of busying itself with a more newsworthy mobile phone, hold your horses folks because the BH-804 boasts something which made it worthy of this coverage. The BH-804 according to Nokia does not only provide crisp and clear audio quality but it happens to be Nokia’s smallest Bluetooth headset ever.

More Nokia touchscreen phones are coming

Nokia’s first touchscreen phone, Nokia 5800 was a blast for Nokia fanatics. Nokia has recently made another statement pertaining to the production of Nokia touchscreen phones in the future. In a recent event in India, Devinder Kishore, Marketing Director of Nokia revealed, “We will have lot of touchscreen phones coming up, including an N-series device very soon.“.
Well, this proves that Nokia is really up to the challenge to compete with its rivals and it’s evolving fast! With the promising looks of Nokia 5800, we are certainly anxious for the next touchscreen product from Nokia.
