Gadgetell Peep Show: Navigon 2100 Max GPS
We just got our hands on the 2100 Max GPS from Navigon, and while we are planning to bring you a full review, we wanted to take a few minutes and show off some pics. Just by looking at the 2100 Max, you can already see just how nice the unit looks, thanks in part to the shiny black exterior and the large 4.3-inch display. However, the 2100 Max offers so much more than just good looks, the unit is feature packed and comes with the very nice option to have your maps and points-of-interest upgraded every three-months with NAVIGON FreshMaps. Aside from the updates, the 2100 Max also offers reality view, turn-by-turn spoken directions, route planning, predictive text, speed assistant as well as branded-icons for your POI’s and much, much more that will will cover in the full review.
The Navigon 2100 Max is currently shipping and it retails for $299. Simply based on some quick first impressions, it seems to be well worth the money, be sure to check back for our full review to come, in the meantime enjoy the pics.

Navigon announces the new 2120 Max [Updated]
At CeBIT 2008, Navigon announced the Max Series which contained two GPS units, the 2100 and the 2120. Overall they are pretty similar except that the 2120 comes with maps of the United States and Canada where the 2100 only comes with maps of the 48 contiguous states. Otherwise, they are basically the same feature wise.
Navigon announces the new 2100 Max [Updated]
At CeBIT 2008, Navigon has announced a few new GPS models to add to their North American GPS lineup. The first of the few that they announced was the 2100 Max. One of the main things the Navigon touts about their 2100 Max is the widescreen display, but other than that, it’s basically your average GPS, coming with all the features you would expect a GPS to come with.
“Navigon is building on the same product strategy that drove our success last year. We are committed to providing GPS systems with features that are relevant to the navigation experience,” said Andreas Hecht, Navigon’s President for the Americas. “We believe we’ve raised the bar with a competitively priced, feature-packed GPS device.”
Navigon announces new map service, Fresh Maps
Usually, maps of any GPS don’t really get updated unless you’re willing to pay upwards of a $100 just for one measly map update that you might not even use. Dubbed Fresh Maps, this is the first GPS company to actually offer a map updating subscription service. With this new service, Navigon will be offering around 12 map updates over a 3 year period, all for only $79. Only problem is, this service will only work with a few of Navigon’s GPS units such as the 7100, 5100, and the 2100/2120 Max series.
Andreas Hecht, Navigon President in North America, had this to say about this new service:
Navigon 8110 coming soon in Germany
Navigon is getting ready to unveil their new GPS in the 8000 series, and it comes with a new version of the Navigon MobileNavigator software, which is version 7.
Version 6 of this software was released about 2 years ago, and version 7 will be featuring voice synthesis, and voice recognition, which whill allow you to save address information. The maps will be displayed in a better 3D reality view, and route calculations will be performed much faster.
Screenwise, the Navigon 8110 will be featuring a wide 4.8 inch touch screen, and it is encased in an aluminum design. Additionally, it comes with integrated Bluetooth for hands-free calling, an FM transmitter, a RDS/TMC receiver for live traffic updates, and a built-in car charger. The processor runs at 533MHz, utilises a graphic accelerator, and 128MB of memory.
A list of all the features are as follows:
Porsche P9611 GPS
Porsche’s designers teamed with Navigon to create an out-of-this-world GPS system - the P9611. A testament to Porsche’s elegance, the P9611 has a 480x272 screen and it’s running Navigon Mobile Navigator 6 software on an Intel XScale 520MHz processor. As we all know, anything made by Porsche comes at a price to the consumer. Almost double the cost of a Tom Tom, the P9611 will run you a total of $955.
