Dell’s Inspiron 910 netbook coming this week, possibly Thursday

Dell's Inspiron 910 netbook coming this week, possibly Thursday

A specific release date still has not been announced, but based on confirmation from none other than Dell and Box.net we should be seeing the Inspiron 910 within just a few days.

To begin with, Dell has confirmed that they would be unveiling their Inspiron 910 netbook this week, with an announcement possibly coming as early as Thursday September 4. Of course the spokeswoman from Dell has also stated that the current leaked specs are “pretty much rumor and speculation.“ While that may be accurate statement, it seems to me like a last ditch effort to keep something special and perhaps try to make the official announcement a little more exciting.

Those rumored specs include an 8.9-inch display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and also SSD based drives with storage options up to 16GB in size.

Of course that storage option seems to make a little more sense when you hear that Dell has partnered with Box.net to provide online storage, and that their services will “come pre-installed on the Dell Mini.“

Further evidence of the launch comes from the WSJ, who are reporting that the September 4 launch date has been confirmed by an email that was received from Box.net. The good news is that the announcement should be coming within a few days now, not to mention that a “person familiar with the matter” is calling for a price tag of “less than $400.“ Of course we all know that means $399, but it still sounds like a good price point.

Dell’s Inspiron 910 support docs showing online, looks like an official release is coming

Dell's Inspiron 910 support docs showing online, looks like an official release is coming

It looks like those leaked images of the “no function key” Dell Inspiron 910 were indeed accurate, the latest image (pictured above) comes courtesy of some newly released Dell support pages for the upcoming Inspiron 910.

Based on the image, and the docs we can now confirm that the Inspiron 910 will have just two LED’s, one for power and one for battery status. We can also confirm, with some disappointment that the keyboard will be slightly different than most are currently used to seeing, as it will not have the dedicated function keys. Of course, looking on the bright side, it could make for a nicer typing experience with the possibility of slightly larger keys.

Dell’s Inspiron 910 caught in the wild, and its running Ubuntu

Dell's Inspiron 910 caught in the wild, and its running Ubuntu

Based on previous leaked images we are likely to believe this is the real deal, because after all, isn’t it a rule that these always be blurry and slightly hard to look at. Of course we cannot confirm if these are truly the real deal, but deep down we hope they are.

Based on these images, this model seems a little nicer than the last leaked images, for one it does not seem nearly as shiny and prone to show every little flaw. However the keyboard does seem to be missing a few things, notably the function keys. Keep reading to check out another image of the Inspiron 910, along with another image of the configuration screen…

Dell Inspiron 910, more leaked images appear

Dell Inspiron 910 more leaked images appear

It seems like the avalanche of Dell Inspiron 910 leaks has begun, it was just a few days ago that we found out the specs and availability information, and now the latest leak comes in the form of some more images.

These latest images seem to offer a decent quality, but sadly do not offer much more in terms of official specs or pricing. From the images we can clearly see the headphone and microphone jacks, Ethernet, VGA, built-in card reader, power and its three USB ports but nothing overly exciting.

The Inspiron 910 does appear to be particularly shiny, which could be a potential downfall for some users as it will most likely show off every little scratch and fingerprint. Of course on the positive side, the power adapter seems to be nice and small, at least from these images it seems to be just a power adapter and not a brick. Keep reading to check out the rest of the images…

Dell's Inspiron 910 aka Mini Inspiron

We have seen the rumored specs, and rumored launch time frame, but just recently some of the official details have just been leaked, and they certainly answer just about all the questions you would have.

According to the source, it will be just a matter of days before the Inspiron 910 hits the available status, August 22 to be exact. the Inspiron 910 will feature an 8.9-inch display with a 1024 x 600 resolution, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 Diamondville processor, three USB ports, Wi-Fi, built-in webcam, Ethernet, two minicard slots, VGA out, headphone in, microphone out, a built-in card reader and powered by a 4-cell battery.

In addition it will come standard with 512MB of RAM and max out at 1GB of RAM, as for storage, users will have the option of either a 4, 8 or 16GB SSD. The Inspiron 910 will also give users the option of running either Windows XP or Ubuntu 8.04 as their operating system of choice.

One bit of information that has yet to reveal itself is the pricing, we can only hope that the rumored $299 starting price holds true, now lets just hope the launch date was indeed accurate.

Dell’s yet un-named mini notebook coming this August

by Robert Nelson on Jun 5, 2008 at 04:45 PM

While there still has not been an official product announcement it seems that will not stop the details from slowly but surely slipping out. The latest news comes courtesy of Dell, so we can at least be safe to believe its accurate, and places the mini notebook to be ready for an August release. Aside from the release time frame the specs are still mostly unknown with Dell’s senior vice president Jeff Clarke stating quite simply that he is “not going to talk about about the specification of the product.”

What we do know is that the mini notebook will have a VGA port, three USB ports and a built-in card reader. The most important details such as the processor, RAM, hard drive and well basically all the good stuff remain under wraps. It was also stated that the main reason that Dell is coming a little late to the mini notebook party is that they are “working on getting the right keyboard,” with an effort to make it “unique to Dell” and still offer a keypad that “accommodates as best as possible the best user experience for this class of products.”

The notebook is rumored to be called the Inspiron Mini, however I a leaning towards the name “Minspiron” that was coined by Kevin Tofel.
