3G iPhone launch ‘confirmed’ for June 9?
Although the date has been speculated for a while, Gizmodo is claiming that they have confirmed the launch of the 3G iPhone during the WWDC Keynote on June 9. This latest development comes from “sources close to the 3G iPhone launch” and puts the 3G enabled iPhone with worldwide availability without any delay, meaning that you will be able to plunk down your hard earned money without any further waiting.
So now, as this has not been confirmed by Apple we have to remember that it just may well still change, or its always possible that it is entirely untrue to begin with. The real question here is not when it will be released, but whether or not current iPhone users will feel the need to run out and upgrade. It sounds nice to me, but I am not sure if the 3G support alone would be enough to win me over.

Mossberg washes hands of 3G iPhone rumor
Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal recently cause a commotion when he let some info loose about the possibility of a 3G Apple iPhone in June. And as he was doing this in a public press conference, it’s easy to see why everybody in the Web took his word so seriously (and didn’t even consider this to be a late April fools joke). We’ve read his statement in quotes, and we’ve even watched a video of him saying it. But a recent report from Silicon Alley Insider says that Mossberg has disowned having said that there will be a 3G iPhone in June, and even went as far as to say that he doesn’t really care if and when a 3G iPhone comes. Oops?
Walt said that he was only making a side comment about the iPhone while talking about an entirely different topic altogether, and has no way to make sure whether his statement was correct or not. He’d go on to later say that his statement was just a ballpark estimate, based on pretty much the same data that everybody else has been using. This might not be enough to convince most people, but the real kicker is this: “If I knew when this date was, why would I announce it in the middle of a sentence at the Finnish embassy, rather than report it in the Wall Street Journal?” And that, my friends, would be the ultimate disclaimer. Guess we’ll all just have to wait and see in June then.
