Hands free texting time has come?

With last weeks train accident in California, the general public is waking up to how consuming flying thumbs on a small keypad can be. It is said the engineer on the train was texting instead of doing his job and this contributed to the event. Could technology have prevented this?
Hands free texting solutions exist
Jott thinks so. Their voice-to-text software turns your phone into a hands free texting machine, email responder, even voice control for many of Microsoft Outlook functions. When I spoke with a founder and Jott CEO John Pollard earlier this year, he was extremely excited about their new app for BlackBerry. Indeed, it is impressive allowing great functionality like replying to emails by voice. Simple say “reply with Jott” and what you record will be sent off, as simple as that.

Jott for BlackBerry service kicks off

The voice to text service company, Jott, has brought its voice recognition technology to BlackBerry devices. Using Jott’s technology BlackBerry users can now reply to email using their voices. The Jott voice recognition technology works with the BlackBerry 8800, 8300 and 8100. By using Jott for BlackBerry, you will be able to reply (at least according to Jott) 3-5 times faster than typing the message out, you will be able to send more personal replies and possibly most important be able to keep your eyes on the road while replying to email, of course in order to reply you would have had to read the message first.
Jott for BlackBerry also works with Bluetooth headsets. If you are interested, simply download and install, Jott will then automatically add a “reply with Jott” option to all emails that you receive from then on.

Trapster warns drivers of speed traps through mobile phones

Trapster is a new mobile phone application that may subliminally encourage drivers to speed. Why subliminal? Well Trapster comes under the guise of being a speed trap sharing system, which means they, or actually the other users are helping you in not getting caught while driving fast. Using Wi-Fi or GPS, Trapster lets drivers report the location of speed traps, red light cameras and other locations that may be of interest to other drivers. Once you get into the Trapster system, you’ll automatically get an audio alert when you’re approaching a location with existing ticket threat. Then it’s up to you how you can avoid that threat. Likewise, Trapster users can also customize the alerts that they receive, say just the existence of red light cameras on specific locations or just the speed traps currently present on certain locations.
