New Alltel Service takes care of your cameraphone snaps so you don’t have to

by David Gonzales on Apr 22, 2008 at 06:29 AM

Alltell Wireless

For just $2.99 per month, Alltell Wireless and Ontela are going to let you carelessly take pictures of anything you deem appropriate with your camera phone and they will save it automatically for you. They are going to do this by collaborating for a new software application that automatically saves all the photos you take to your PC, email, and online photo albums. You wouldn’t need to press anything other than the camera shutter release button, which is very very convenient to say the least. Ontela CEO Dan Shapiro had this to say about their new service:

“You just take the pictures and as if by magic, they appear on your computer in your ‘My Pictures’ folder. This is the end of the ‘photo graveyard,‘ where people take pictures and then leave them on the phone until they’re deleted. Instead, we’ve given a new life to these memories by saving them to the places users care about most.“

Camera phone aficionados are surely going to save a lot of time and precious memories from this. Now how about something that automatically deletes my unwanted photos? Has anybody ever thought of that yet?

Picto DigiArt i90 comes with, seems to do everything, really

by David Gonzales on Mar 13, 2008 at 05:12 AM

Picto DigiArt i90 digital camera

Its name says Picto, DigiArt, and i90. The company used three different terms to identify this new gadget, and yet none of these is camera, digicam, or videocam. That’s because this new do-it-all can’t really fit into any one of those categories, seeing as how many different features it packs under the hood. It’s got an MP3 player, a voice recorder, a 30fps MPEG-4 video recorder, a 1GB SD memory card included in the retail package, and it’s a 9-megapixel camera with face detection and anti-shake technology. Currently selling for ₩179,000 (or about $185) in Korea, this is about as all-encompassing as a point-and-shoot digital camera can get. Although there haven’t been any details about when, or if ever it will be available in the US, we know one thing’s for sure: if the makers of this gadget were taught only three things during their childhood, these are the following: convergence, convergence, and convergence! Of course while it seems to do just about everything, we are not sure how well it will actually handle each of those tasks.

by Leo Blanco on Feb 5, 2008 at 07:34 AM

KODAK KAC-05020 Image Sensor

Hoping to bridge the gap between camera phones and real digital cameras, imaging innovator Kodak has created a new chip that will help manufacturers slash development costs and deliver true camera functionalities.

Dubbed as the KODAK KAC-05020 Image Sensor, it is the world’s first 1.4 micron, 5-megapixel device that can capture high quality images and videos even in low light conditions. Though 5-megapixel cameras are already available in some expensive smartphones, most camera phones still produce blurry images and videos filled with unnecessary background noise.
