HTC intro’s the dual-keyboard S740 for the European market

by Mark Rollins on Aug 27, 2008 at 02:47 PM

HTC S740

HTC had recently followed up the S730 with a newer model, appropriately named the S740.  As you can see, it looks a lot like the Touch Pro mixed with the Touch Diamond.

It definitely has the makings of a gem with its candybar model with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.  It runs with Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, and has a 2.4-inch QVGA screen.

Rumor: T-Mobile’s Android-powered HTC Dream coming October 13

by Robert Nelson on Aug 21, 2008 at 09:01 AM

Although its still just in the rumor stage, it does seem accurate enough and follows up nicely with T-Mobile’s recent confirmation and the FCC approval. It looks like the T-Mobile Android-powered HTC Dream will be available for customers beginning on October 13, with pre-orders running from September 17 through October 3 for current T-Mobile customers, and the handset will be available in black, brown or white.

In addition to the release date, some pricing information has also come to light, and it seems to be set pretty fairly. It is rumored that the HTC Dream will be $199 with a two-year agreement. In addition to the $199 price, which will apply for new customers, it was also mentioned that the price for any current T-Mobile customers looking to upgrade will be slightly less expensive at $150.

T-Mobile’s Android-powered HTC Dream hits the FCC, receives stamp of approval

by Robert Nelson on Aug 19, 2008 at 12:17 AM

T-Mobile's Android powered HTC Dream receives its FCC approval

Earlier today we saw T-Mobile give their official confirmation that the Android powered HTC Dream would be available sometime between October and the end of the year, of course they have yet to confirm an exact release date.

The lack of a release date was most likely being held up be the FCC and waiting for the final approvals to come in, well the good news is the Dream has shown its face and passed the FCC requirements. With that we can only hope that T-Mobile is more inclined to offer a better release date sometime in the short-term future.

The FCC listing does confirm that the HTC model will be the Dream as the handset was labeled the “DREA100.” Otherwise not many specs were made available other than that it has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and runs on the 850/1700/1900MHz bands. Of course, like I would bet many of you are, I am more interested in pricing. I guess the wait now begins.

T-Mobile officially confirms first Android phone before Christmas

by Robert Nelson on Aug 18, 2008 at 09:56 PM

This does not come as a huge surprise, after all we have seen many recent reports with the same timeline, but its still nice to have some official confirmation.

While they still are not offering up a specific launch date, T-Mobile has confirmed that the first Android powered phone would be available “before Christmas” but may come as early as October. They also mentioned that the handset would be coming from HTC, and although they did not confirm a specific model, it is believed to be the HTC Dream, and it will feature both a full touchscreen along with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

At this point we can only hope that the Android powered Dream lands closer to the October end of the time frame, if nothing else the earlier launch would make perfect sense to make sure the fully benefit from the holiday shopping season.

Is the HTC Touch Pro landing with AT&T as the HTC Fuze?

It looks like AT&T will soon be adding will soon be adding the HTC Touch Pro to its already hot lineup, of course the latest HTC goodness is expected to see a name change and be marketed as the HTC Fuze.

Details are light at the moment, and keep in mind this is still based on speculation and rumor, however sources are claiming the HTC Fuze will be available “sooner rather than later.” As you would expect we have not yet found any information regarding price, but fear not we will keep you up to date as more information comes available.

Will the Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond be red?

by Robert Nelson on Aug 15, 2008 at 02:02 PM

Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond in Red

At this point, although it still has not been officially confirmed we are fully expecting Sprint to release an HTC Touch Diamond in the near future, however these latest images are showing off a newly colored red Diamond. Of course these are likely to be nothing more than a Photoshop hoax, so use your best judgment as to whether they are real or not. Personally they look a bit faked, but considering how many other handsets are appearing in various colors lately, you never know for sure. The latest rumored availability date we have come across is August 28, hopefully (for Sprint users) this date will hold true.

It looks like the much anticipated mobile phone powered by Google’s Android Software will finally be pushed through, and if we are lucky it might come upon us as early as October or later just in time for Christmas. The New York Times is reporting that HTC will be pushing out a new mobile handset powered by Google Android and also went on to mention that the Google phone will be released by none other than T-Mobile.

Problems with Android may push HTC’s “GPhone” to next year

by Shawn Ingram on Aug 8, 2008 at 07:53 PM

Android

According to a recent report from Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry, HTC’s first phone for Google’s upcoming mobile OS, Android might be delayed until next year.  The problems seem to stem from from “structural problems” for adding features that Google wants in the phone.  Chowdry seems to think HTC is nervous about the overall possibilities of success for Android. The phone is suspected to be the HTC Dream, which many believed would be released in October first for T-Moblie USA, though the date may be slipping into next year.

HTC Touch Diamond coming to Sprint in August?

by Robert Nelson on Aug 4, 2008 at 08:04 PM

Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond

We first saw that blurry in-the-wild style image back in early-July, and now have some further evidence that the HTC Touch Diamond will soon be heading to Sprint.

The China Post is reporting that it will be arriving, and soon, they have stated that it will be available “through Sprint Nextel Corp. in August.” Sounds like good news for Sprint customers, but keep in mind this is far from an official announcement.

Of course, that previous image coupled with the more recent FCC sighting means that it should be available soon, however at this point all we can do is hope, and wait for the official word to come from Sprint or HTC.

HTC Touch Diamond with US 3G support hits the FCC

by Robert Nelson on Jul 30, 2008 at 06:42 PM

HTC Touch Diamond with US-capable 3G FCC label

It looks like good things come to those will a little patience when it comes to a US-based 3G capable Touch Diamond. We had recently seen a home-brewed ROM update that enabled the 850Mhz frequency on the euro-spec’d Touch Diamond, only to have HTC issue an official update that offered EDGE support over the 850Mhz band. That by itself was good news, but still not what many had been hoping for, however that has recently surfaced at the FCC.

That’s right a US 3G capable Touch Diamond has recently been given the seal of approval from the FCC. Of course we are still not sure when this will make its way to an available status, or even how much it will retail for, but that should all come in time. For now at least we can be sure its coming.

Just to recap some of the features, the Touch Diamond offers a 2.8-inch VGA (480 × 640) touchscreen display, a 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera on the rear with a VGA camera on the front, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, Wi-Fi, eGPS, orientation sensor and an FM radio. It is powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM 7201A processor and is running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with the TouchFLO 3D interface. The Touch Diamond also has 256MB ROM / 192MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a microSDHC card slot for additional storage.
