Samsung Rugby: Never has being unsexy been quite so hot

by Jodie Andrefski on Sep 22, 2008 at 07:41 PM

Samsung RugbyI’m too sexy for my phone, too sexy for my phone… Well, that just may be what users of the new un-sexy Samsung Rugby may be singing. But, too sexy for their phone or not, their phone will probably have no problem being able to hold up their end of the relationship.

The recently released Rugby, with its clamshell handset, is the first military-spec phone from AT&T.  It complies with Military Standard MI-SID-810F (dust, shock vibration, rain, humidity and solar radiation proof, as well as the ability to hold its own at altitude and temperature extremes).  It comes equipped with Push-to-talk, an Integrated aGPS, Quad-band UMTS and HSDPA, Bluetooth connectivity, One-way Video Share calling, a 2” display, 1.3 megapixel camera, and 128MB internal memory.

Feedback I’ve found out there by actual users of the phone has been pretty positive so far.

Nokia has also announced the North American versions of these two powerful mobile handsets, and while the UK versions of the N79 and N85 are more than likely to start hitting the stores this month, US stores will start getting both sometime in October.

Archos rolls out new Internet Media Tablets

by Natesh Sood on Aug 20, 2008 at 09:11 AM

Archos 5g

Archos recently came out with 3 new devices, all of which are Internet Media Tablets. These new gadgets are set to combine music/video playback, TV, and the Internet, all in one sweet device. These new Archos tablets are called the Archos 5, Archos 7, and Archos 5g.

Let’s begin with the Archos 5. This device ranges in models with storage capacities of 60GB to a massive 250GB. It comes with a 5-inch screen to display the Internet and videos as clear as possible. Next, we have the Archos 7 and the 7 stands for it’s screen size, a beautiful 7-inch display. The cool feature in this one as opposed to the Archos 5, is that it can play live TV, a nice feature to have in any handheld device. As usual, it also can access the Internet and play videos. If you have a lot of videos stored on your computer and need a big device to store it all, then the Archos 7 is the device for you as it stores from 160GB to a crazy 320GB.

Lastly, we have the Archos 5g Tablet, which is designed for people always on the go and wanting to use the Internet wherever. The Archos 5g comes with 3.5g HSDPA technology, allowing you to connect to the Internet on the way to work, or on a long car ride. It boasts a hi-res 5-inch screen, and a 30GB hard drive. All three of these Internet Media Tablets come with something unique and perfect for everyone. Unfortunately, no word on pricing or availability at this time.

Motorola’s Atila handset photos, specs leak out

by Arnold Zafra on Aug 12, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Motorola Atila mobile phone

It was only last week when we spotted an image of the new Motorola handset uniquely code-named Alexander, and now here comes another handset this time codenamed Atila. Well, Atila looks very much alike the Alexander minus the QWERTY keyboard. But aside from the absence of this feature, the Atila handset also differs from the Alexander by virtue of it being Motorola’s first mobile phone that will have tri-band UMTS/HSDPA feature.

The Motorola Atila is both a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850MHz/1900MHz/2100MHz) phone that features both 7.2Mbps and 1.8Mbps HSUPA download speeds, a 1130mAh battery, a 2.8-inch QVGA 240 x 320 display screen, Wi-Fi b/g, Qualcomm 7201A chipset and has Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional for its OS.

Unlike the Motorola Alexander which is expected to hit the shelves sometime in October, release date and pricing information for Atila the handset are not yet available.
