HP’s Mini 1000 already supporting 3G?

Originally, HP stated that a 3G-capable Mini 1000 would not be available until December. However, at least one enterprising user seems to already have one in hand and already gotten the 3G working. The details of this particular model are a little unclear, according to the forum posting, the user has a model #1033cl. Based on some searching around, that model seems to be available only outside the US. So, this is where it gets a little confusing, because he seems to be here in the US, as he mentioned that it is working on AT&T’s network.
Now, is this a slip up on the part of HP, or are there more of these WWAN-equipped models out in-the-wild? Fortunately, a quick check on the underside of your Mini 1000 will let you know if you have a WWAN-equiped netbook. The slot (as pictured) can be found on the bottom and on the side of the battery slot. Continued after the break.
HP adds the 2530p, 2730p notebook PCs to its EliteBook line-up

Along with the Compaq 2230s that HP launched are two new EliteBook models, the 2530p featuring a durable HP DuraCase and the ultra-thin 2730p convertible tablet PC. The 2530p’s DuraCase sports a brushed, anodized aluminum exterior casing that complements its magnesium alloy casing and passed the military-standard durability test for extreme temperature, dust and humidity. While the 2730’s main feature is its twisting screen which transform it from an ultra-portable notebook into a pen-based tablet.
Both Elitebook models boast of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, a 2-megapixel webcam with business card reader software and an integrated HP NighLight that illuminates to improve the visibility of their keyboard when in a low-light environment. Both also feature shock-resistant hard drive and spill-resistant keyboard just like other EliteBook notebook PCs.
Individually, the EliteBook 2530p is geared more for the business professional being HP’s smallest and lightest-weight notebook model. Weighing a mere 1.44 kg, this notebook features a 12.1-inch diagonal widescreen Illumi-Lite LED display and a choice between a 1.8-inch hard drive with optical drive or 2.5-inch hard drive. The Elitebook 2730p on the other hand weighs 1.7 kg and boasts of a rotating screen which quickly transforms the notebook into a tablet PC. It is also an ultra-thin notebook measuring only 1.11-inches in thickness. Other features of the EliteBook 2730 include an integrated touchpad, tablet buttons, jog dial, slim-docking solution and an integrated DVD+/-RW drive.
The EliteBook 2530p and 2730p are slated to hit the US markets sometime in September with pricing starting at $1,499 for the 2530p and $1,670 for the 2730p.

HP 2230s lightweight notebook looks pretty good
![]()
We recently covered the HP 550 showing up on HP’s product page, and we’ve also caught wind of Hewlett-Packard’s latest foray into the lightweight laptop market with the 2230s.
Since this is new technology, our information is always pretty sketchy at best. We do know that Intel’s GMA 4500MHD graphics chipset is on board, as well as Centrino 2 processors. It also has 3GB of memory, a 320GB hard drive, 802.11n, three USB ports along with an HDMI port.
HP’s 550 business laptop shows up on its product page

HP has listed a what seems to be budget business laptop called the HP 550 on its product site. We say budget because the new HP laptop features some not so expensive Core 2 Duos and Celerons as configurations for its processor. Aside from these, the HP 550 will also have an Intel GMA X3100 graphics, up to 4GB of RAM, up to 250GB of hard drive storage, a choice between a combo optical drive or DVD burner, and a 15.4-inch diagonal WXGA Brightview display with up to 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.
HP ships LaserJet P1005, smallest laser printer

In case you’re one of those people who likes everything small and efficient, you might want to consider checking out this new HP laser printer. HP touts that this is the smallest ever, and it was announced this past summer, but starts shipping now.
The LaserJet P1005 takes up the same area as a 15.4-inch notebook, so I would imagine it really is as small as HP claims. Additionally, when in PowerSave mode, it can spit out a piece of paper in around 8.5 seconds. Also, it has an average speed of 14 pages per minute, which isn’t too bad considering it’s size. Furthermore, it looks like HP has some special ink “formed from perfectly spherical particles”, which they claim to have better quality than other inks. It is available on Amazon right now for $145.
