Product: Griffin Technology ClearBoost and Wave case
Price and Availability: Both currently available, the ClearBoost is $29.99 and the Wave case is $24.99
Rating: ClearBoost 5/10 and Wave case 9/10
Pros: Both cases offered solid protection for the iPhone along with the display.
Cons: A personal issue, but they both make using the Apple dock difficult.
Overall: If you are looking for a solid case or a signal booster, then either of these from Griffin would make an ideal option to consider.

by Michael Yurechko on Mar 19, 2007 at 08:56 PM

Griffin TuneFlex Aux
Griffin Technology is quite famous for its many iPod accessories, more specifically it’s iPod docks. Well it seems Griffin has another item to add to the list, the TuneFlex Aux. The Griffin TuneFlex Aux is a dock, charger, and direct line-in connection to your car’s stereo.

The TuneFlex plugs right into your car’s 12 volt accessory outlet to power and charge your iPod with it’s flexible neck. The TuneFlex is also very flexible when it comes to playing your music through your car’s stereo with it’s built-in 1/8” stereo line-out audio jack. Don’t have an aux-in on your car stereo? No problem. You can use a range of other Griffin products to listen to your music, including: the iTrip FM transmitter, SmartDeck cassette adapter, as well as a slew of other options.

The TuneFlex Aux is compatible with both 4th and 5th Gen iPods, and the TuneFlex Aux nano is nano-sized and made specifically for your 2nd Gen iPod nano. There is no release date for the TuneFlex Aux current so in the mean time, check out the site.

Griffin HD radio

by Adam Berger on Jan 12, 2007 at 10:45 PM

Griffin Radio Shark 2 HD radioSpeaking of HD Radio… Griffin announced plans to develop radioSHARK HD, a digital table top radio for Mac and PC with HD Radio technology. radioSHARK HD--like Griffin’s radioSHARK and radioSHARK 2--will house a radio tuner in a sleek “shark fin” that connects to the USB port of a Mac or PC.  With radioSHARK HD, users will be able to listen to their favorite AM/FM stations in pure digital audio quality, conveniently from their personal computers.  With next-generation digital HD Radio technology from iBiquity, digital FM stations approach CD-quality sound, and digital AM stations approach FM-quality sound.

HD Radio technology also makes “multicasting” possible, allowing broadcasters to double or triple the number of program streams (all free) available to listeners.  With innovative hardware-software integration from Griffin, next-generation digital radio becomes truly interactive.  radioSHARK HD will allow users to “pause live radio,” and to schedule recordings of digital radio programming.  radioSHARK HD will go further by automatically identifying radio stations and even individual songs broadcast in digital format.

Finally, radioSHARK HD will allow users to review and playback music recorded from digital radio on a personal computer, sync recordings of digital radio programming to an iPodTM, and purchase songs heard on digital radio from Apple’s iTunes Music StoreTM.

Griffin’s radioSHARK HD will be available in Summer 2007.

Griffin Amplifi and Journi amplify your musical journey

by Adam Berger on Jan 5, 2007 at 09:34 PM

Griffin Amplifi ipod dap speaker boombox audio speaker
Please forgive me for the possibly horrendous post title, but these speaker names were calling for something to that effect. Griffin will take their first steps into the DAP (digital audio player) speaker dock market at this year’s CES/MacWorld, obviously starting with the iPod.

The Amplifi is housed within an all-wood casing. Inside are two 2.75” neodymium high/midrange speakers and a 5” down-firing woofer The system is ready for six different generations/product lines of Apple iPods via an iPod dock (which charges while it plays) as well a 3.5mm stereo input jack for the other players out there. The Amplifi also includes a 6-function IR remote to control your pod while it is docked.

Griffin Journi ipod dap speaker boombox audio speaker
Maximum boom, but without the box - the boombox has evolved with the Journi. Designed with travel in mind, the Journi sports a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery and is ready to provide the music you need wherever you go. It has an integrated iPod dock, 3.5mm stereo jack, 6 function IR remote that tucks away into the device for storage, and it syncs directly to your iPod and PC via a USB jack.

An elevator for your computer

by Adam Berger on Dec 23, 2006 at 02:40 PM

griffin elevator laptop stand
The Elevator, wait for it, elevates laptops off the desktop providing the thing that we tend to lose most, desk space. Griffin has designed Elevator as a substantial realization of a simple design. Elevator uses a 1/2-inch-thick crossbar to hold two 1/4-inch-thick aluminum standards, positioning the laptop’s screen at an ideal height for viewing when seated.

Crystal-clear polycarbonate and aircraft-grade aluminum with a matte silver finish meet in Elevator’s minimalist design to create a desktop accessory that looks as good holding the laptop as it does sitting empty, waiting patiently to be of service.

What to do with that newly created space under your laptop? Most users will find it handy for tucking keyboard and mouse away when not in use. The extra-resourceful among you will discover that the space also makes an ideal hideaway for that oft-stolen stapler, or the bowl of sunflower seeds that the guy from marketing plunders when you’re not looking.

Griffin’s Elevator desktop stand accommodates all laptops 10 inches wide and wider for $39.99.

Griffin 5-in-1 express card reader

by Adam Berger on Dec 20, 2006 at 04:37 AM

Griffin 5-in-1 express card reader
Cards for your digital still camera… cards for your digital camcorder… flash memory cards for file portability.... With the plethora of memory card formats in use today, you need a card reader that’s not only fast and portable, but versatile as well.

Griffin’s 5-in-1 works with the ExpressCard/34 or /54 slot found in Apple’s MacBook Pro and many recent Windows laptops. It’s the fastest way to transfer data from your memory cards, comparable to or better than USB 2.0 High-Speed (up to 480 Mbps). Contrast this with the 12 Mbps you get from USB 1.0 card readers, and even slower rates when transferring directly from the camera.

Griffin’s new ExpressCard/34 5-in-1 card reader handles the whole spectrum of modern memory card formats, directly supporting:

  • Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO

  • SD Memory Card

  • MultiMediaCard

  • xD-Picture Card

...and with your card adapter, the 5-in-1 also supports:

  • Memory Stick Duo

  • Memory Stick Micro

  • miniSD

  • microSD

  • RS-MMC

  • MMCplus

  • MMCmobile

Griffin’s 5-in-1 works with both Mac OS and Windows XP right out of the box for $29.99.

FM transmitters are now legal in the UK

by Adam Berger on Dec 10, 2006 at 09:51 PM

iTrip FM TransmitterYeah, that’s what I’m saying. Who would have known (besides our Queen’s English-speaking friends) that FM transmitters, and hence iTrips, were recently illegal in the UK.

Previous legislation designed to curb pirate radio stations disallowed use of the device in the UK. The law prohibited the iTrip from transmitting music from an iPod to any FM radio. Ofcom, the United Kingdom’s Office of Communications, has implemented the Wireless Telegraphy Exemption today and effectively lifted the ban on FM Transmitters.

We are sure that Griffin, Belkin, and all other iPod, Zune, and other DAP accessory makers were ecstatic about the new news.
