Welcome to another week gone that you are not getting back. No matter how much we loathe the week, it’s in the books and no amount of illegal narcotics is going to change that fact. For these nominees, who I suspect are on crack, this week hasn’t been kind. Let’s… Continue Reading »

CES 2010 Hands On: Energizer XP400 Power Pack
One of the things I liked the most about the XP4000 is the size of the base. It’s less than half an inch longer than a MyTouch 3G and isn’t as wide as a Nintendo DS. Even while charging my phone, the XP4000 sat comfortably in my pocket without forming… Continue Reading »
CES 2010: NETGEAR does away with Ethernet cables using Powerline

One of the worst case scenarios for tech junkies and neat freaks is having to stretch a long Ethernet cable throughout your home in order to connect one or more devices to the web. NetGear has figured out a way to connect all your devices using an everyday electrical outlet.
Powerline is a group of devices that plug into your wall to eliminate the clutter brought on by Ethernet cables. It connects HDTV’s game consoles, DVR’s and PC’s with very little effort. Powerline also disables itself when not in use to save electricity. NETGEAR is branding this product to be very environmentally friendly.
Powerline comes in three different units depending on what your connection needs are. The differences between the 85Mbps Powerline Ethernet Adapter, Powerline AV 200 Adapter and the Powerline AV+ 200 Adapter lie in how many mega bits per second you need transferred from your internet connection. The AV+ also comes with an extra outlet for noise filtering.
Powerline will work effectively in homes up to 5000 square feet and comes with a one year warranty from NETGEAR.
