Gadgetell’s Tech on de Tour: GPS on bicycles interview
One of the things in this year’s tour that is really making an impression on me is riders choosing to make their bike heavier. Normally, cyclists (or any endurance athletes) strive to have nothing extra. No cost is too big, no weight savings too small. So when you have more and more Tour riders choosing to put a Garmin GPS and a PowerTap hub, it deserves a closer look.
I had the chance to interview Jake Jacobson, Garmin’s Senior Media Relations Specialist, who was actually in France with the Tour riders, the lucky guy. He was gracious enough to answer my questions despite moving from town to town in the French countryside.
I’ll point out here that saying Garmin’s hundreds of thousands of dollar investment in the Garmin-Chipotle team was a move into a niche market was probably not the wisest of moves for me. Luckily, Jake didn’t hold against me and was gracious enough to answer anyway.
Apple lets flood gates open: more iPhone App developers accepted
Gadgetell exclusive: last night I was contacted by a couple of developers, each shut out of the beta program. Both, I might add, have fantastic application ideas but Apple hadn’t even looked at thier app until yesterday. Or so it seemed.
Both developers got notification they were accepted into the program. Word is a couple of weeks and wham, bam, boom - they are in the App Store.
As I’ve said before, I found the launch of the App Store a little underwhelming but do believe it will snowball into some amazing Apps for us to enjoy. How about you, got an app you can’t live without now?
I also got to thinking this morning, Apple just created a way for them to add productivity to current applications while getting us to pay for them. Things like a video camera, MMS, copy and paste. Things that we all think should just be in there, Apple can now collect revenue for. Nice. Well, for them anyway.

Day two here in Vegas for CES. The team has been hard at work since early yesterday, pumping out posts. More to come throughout the entire week so stay tuned.
Gadgetell rolls into 2008 with a refreshed look
If you are reading this I expect that you have noticed the new look, here at Gadgetell. We have been working hard the past three months to roll out this new design right in time for 2008. Though we continue to face server issues, the design and some backend work are both helping to resolve the problem.
As part of the new look you will notice that we switched from a deep red/maroon shade to solid red. We also upgraded the background on the header from silver to gold. The browser/categories have been reworked a bit a as well and we will continue to optimize the listing across the top. Don’t think we forgot about the other categories, they can be accessed via the “More>>“ link on the navigation bar.
New additions include a “Featured Content” area as well as “Gadgetell Originals” in the second and third columns of the page. These will be two spots where you will find content that is 100% exclusive to Gadgetell, whether it be product reviews, unboxings/peep shows, interviews, podcasts, or analysis. Expect these to start populating as we move into CES mode.
One Million Hits!
I just wanted to throw out that Gadgetell received its one millionth hit today, about 13 months after launch. Thanks for coming back and sharing the site with friends and family.

You wish us congrats in the comments below and we will randomly select three people to choose their prize. You have until Friday, December 22, at 11:59PM PST.

Spam ate Gadgetell and finally spit it back up…
After being completely wiped out for most of yesterday and today, we’ve finally got Gadgetell back up. We were unable to login or access our back-end, so we apologize for the lack of stories. After backing up everything (which took what seems like an eternity), copying back over the files, and deleting the 7,000 comment spams we got yesterday, we’re back to blogging. I think it’s safe to assume that caused quite a bit of strain on our servers. Now that we back up, you have no excuse not to enter our Docupen giveaway! We’ll write some stories, and you go do that. Head over to the post to find out how!
This week in Gadgetell: 2/27/06 - 3/5/06
I guess this was the big week for announcements. Though disappointing, the week was headlined by Apple’s ”Fun Ehhh New Products” event. Microsoft has been teasing Origami, Sony Ericsson dropped some sweet Cyber-shot, Walkman, and everyday phones, Blu-ray has a hardware and content launch date, SanDisk announced a whole slueh of new products, and TiVo announced KidZone. As always, we saw a bunch of gaming rumors including the PSP, DS, and Revolution. Finally, on Friday RIM finally settled their patent lawsuit, paying $612.5 million to NTP to keep their Blackberry’s up and running.
Here’s the rundown of the past week. In case you missed them be sure to checkout our Gadgetell Podcast 2: The day before “fun new products†(now on iTunes too!) as well as this weeks columns. Thanks again for your readership.
