Sprint’s new 3G phone, the Samsung Instinct, has sold the fastest out of all Sprint’s 3G phones. Sprint has come out to say that this new 3G touchscreen phone is breaking records already in it’s first week of availability. Sprint nor Samsung expected the Instinct to be selling this much because Samsung has to start producing more of the Instinct just to meet the consumer demand. There are already shortages in select US locations, and if Sprint wishes to continue with this surge, they need to make sure they have enough phones.

Dell has announced that it will soon be rolling out new-generation laptops that will enable users to connect online through mobile broadband running on multiple 3G cellular networks. The new Dell laptops will be equipped with the new GOBI Mobile Broadband Technology from Qualcomm. GOBI is a software-configurable technology that enables users to connect online using both UMTS and CDMA networks.

The new-generation laptops which are currently on Dell’s drawing board will have the capability to connect via HSPA carrier networks, a wireless standard commonly used in Europe, even if the user is US based and typically connects to the web using an EV-DO connection. The EV-DO carrier network is used by US mobile providers Verizon Wireless and Sprint.

Dell has not released specific models yet for these new laptops but the press release said that GOBI technology will be employed across Dell’s various laptop model series – Latitude, Precision and consumer laptops.

It was just a few weeks ago that finally saw the HTC Shift officially land here in the US and now we learn of a second version. The latest addition will be a Sprint-branded offering and come with built-in EV-DO support. Overall the specs will remain the same as the ‘standard’ Shift, which features a 7-inch touchscreen display, a full QWERTY keyboard, 800 Mhz processor, 1GB RAM, a 40GB hard drive, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0. The EV-DO Sprint, well actually the “HTC HTCX9000 Shift CDMA” version will retail for $1500, and is already available for pre-order on Amazon.

Sprint is releasing a software update for the HTC Mogul that will let the phone connect to a faster data network. The software upgrade, which will double the data connection and enhance upload speeds of the mobile phone, will be using the Evolution-Data Optimized Revision A (EV-DO Rev.A) network.

Sprint is currently only using the EV-DO Rev.A network only for laptop cards, while most of their mobile phones used the slower network EV-DO Rev.0 network. With the new faster data network, the Mogul phone will be able to download at a speed of 600 kbps to 1,400 kbps. This is way faster that the current speed of the EV-DO utilized by most Sprint mobile phones. For uploading files, the Mogul phone connected on the EV-DO Rev.A network can run as fast as 350 kbps to 500 kbps, a very big improvement from the current 50 kbps to 70 kbps.
