Leaked images; Sony Ericsson’s 5MP W902 “Patty”

by Robert Nelson on Jul 12, 2008 at 08:29 AM

Sony Ericsson 5MP W902 Patty

Another series of leaked images of another upcoming handset from Sony Ericsson. The images come courtesy of the Arabic SE4M forums, and not only give a pretty good look at the handset, but they also include a few details about what we can expect.

As typical with leaked images, the pricing and release date have not been mentioned. But we do have enough details to make this something to look forward to. Based on the images we can tell that it will have a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. It is also a Walkman phone, however the images are not showing any headphone jack, and based on previous models, lets just hope that it comes as a standard 3.5mm jack and not an special size.

Keep reading to check out a few of the images…

Makers unite to stop iPhone; Symbian Foundation created

by JG Mason on Jun 24, 2008 at 09:16 AM

I’ve been waiting for some kind of response from the big manufacturers to the iPhone.  Sure they’ve thrown some clones our way but nothing that puts them on the path to a true “iPhone killer”.  Today, they’ve shown they mean business by uniting the Symbian OS.

Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and NTT DoCoMo have all joined forces to open up Symbian and work to encourage developers on the common platform.  By bringing together Symbian OS, S60, UIQ and MOAP(S) they will create one open mobile platform.  And they are working with carriers and other telecom giants like AT&T, LG, Samsung, STMicro, Texas Instruments and Vodafone to widen the net of users and developers.

This is a relatively big deal.  To me, it says, “we get the idea that software is king.” To the world, it says, “this is how we move forward.” And a lot of weight moving forward it is.  Going open source and royalty free they hope to attract all the developers who have iPhones royalties in their eyes right now.

This is definitely a step in the right direction.  As my Econ professors used to say, “competition is a good thing.”

HTC Touch Diamond, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 compared in images

by Robert Nelson on May 18, 2008 at 10:22 AM

HTC Touch Diamond and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Its hard to deny that the upcoming Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 and the HTC Touch Diamond both look really nice, but are still feature packed phones. A few images have recently surfaced showing both handsets side by side, while the images are not perfect, they still give a nice perspective. Given the option to use either phone it would be a hard decision, without handling either handset yet, I would lean towards the Touch Diamond. Keep reading for a few more pics…

Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1 outed for a mid-September release?

by Robert Nelson on May 3, 2008 at 09:32 AM

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 mid-September launch date

Oh you have to love the leaks, especially when they are giving out the goods on a phone as hot as the XPERIA X1 from Sony Ericsson. We have seen plenty of details come out for the X1, most of the specs have been confirmed and we have even seen some unofficial pricing, however the release remained somewhat of a mystery, that is until now.

The most recent leak comes courtesy of a newsletter from Handango, and they are clearly stating the “Xperia X1 will launch in mid-September 2008,” and in addition the phone will include the Handango InHand service. While the release time-frame is not official as its not coming from Sony Ericsson we can only hope it is true, it does however fit in with the estimate that was previously stated from SE, in that the XPERIA X1 would launch during the second part of 2008.

Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1 preorder pricing revealed

by Robert Nelson on Mar 14, 2008 at 07:02 AM

We are slowly but surely getting more details on Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1, we have seen the announcement along with rumors of a delay that were later (and thankfully) proven untrue, now we are beginning to get some pricing details. One thing that seems to be sure is that the XPERIA X1 is not going to be a cheap phone, but of course I think we could have all guessed that. A few online retailers have begun to list the XPERIA X1:

Why Hotspots and WiFi shouldn’t die

by JG Mason on Mar 11, 2008 at 03:14 PM

I am not buying into Ericsson’s CMO Johan Bergendahl’s comments regarding the future of WiFi.  Mr. Bergendahl is quoted as saying WiFi hot spots are going the way of the dodo bird, that is, extinct in the near future.  Perhaps in Europe this is readily becoming the case thanks to a densely populated landscape.  But WiFi Hotspots shouldn’t die over this.  Here is why:

AT&T adding the Sony Ericsson K850 to the lineup

by Robert Nelson on Mar 9, 2008 at 01:43 PM

Sony Ericsson K850

Thanks again to some FCC documents, whether it is leaked phone images or in this case details about what phone may be heading to which carrier. This time we have learned the Sony Ericsson K850, that has previously been announced by Rogers in Canada will be heading to AT&T here in the US.

According to the FCC details the Sony Ericsson K850 will have tri-band 3G goodness, which should make both AT&T and SE fans happy. The K850 will also feature a 5-megapixel camera with xenon flash. Of course without any official word from AT&T we are still unsure of a few important details; just when the K850 will be available and how much it will retail for.

Could Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1 be headed to AT&T?

by Robert Nelson on Mar 6, 2008 at 09:38 AM

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, possibly headed to AT&T

Sony Ericsson has their hot Windows Mobile 6.1-based XPERIA X1 handset on display at CeBIT and it seems to be giving a nice clue as to what carrier we may be able to grab this on when its released later this year.

As seen in the images, there is a clear AT&T logo in the center of the display. While it could just merely be a coincidence or possibly someone making an attempt to build speculation, or even Sony Ericsson trying to drop a hint to AT&T, only time will tell just which it is. As you would expect, there has not been any official confirmation of which carrier the X1 will hit upon its release.

Keep reading for a few more images of the XPERIA X1, along with the AT&T logo, the image appears to be showing off a nice shot of the UI in action.
