Once again your printer is out of ink way before you think there is any way it should be. Yet somehow, BOOM. It just refuses to print another page until you replace the cartridge. Well, when Farhad Manjoo’s Brother printer suddenly stopped printing; he started to wonder if his printer wasn’t simply lying to him that it was out of toner just so he would buy more before he actually even needed it. His prints hadn’t been fading at all; his printer just suddenly simply refused to keep going without a new cartridge.

Manjoo decided to look to the ‘Net for a way around this. And he indeed found some answers. He learned that by covering up the sides of his toner cartridge with a piece of electrical tape he could “trick” his printer into thinking it was full. He says the printer was been chugging along just fine ever since...eight months and hundreds of pages down the road...printing out perfect pages.

Epson is adding two new multimedia photo viewers to its product line with the release of the P-6000 and P-7000. Featuring 4-inch 640x480 VGA resolution LCD screens that can display up to 16.7 million colors both, photo viewers offer a high-speed USB 2.0 connection and a built-in CF that supports UDMA and SD card slot.

Both photo viewers can display photos in up to 94 percent Adobe RGB color space, support JPEG and RAW photo file formats and MPEG-4, Motion JPEG and H.264/AVC SVGA video formats. Epson even throws in a 3.5mm headphone jacks for connecting external speakers or headphones.

In addition, the P-7000 comes packed with a travel pack that includes a dual batter charger, car adapter and case. While both photo viewers yields three long hours of usage which makes them perfect for traveling photographers.

The P-6000 and P-7000 photo viewers will both be available sometime in September with retail prices of $600 and $800 respectively.

Epson has started shipping two new Ensemble home entertainment systems, the HD720 and the HD1080.  Both systems can give out high definition images on their 100-inch motorized screen through Epson’s PowerLite 3LCD three-chip HD projector. The HD720 display HD images in 720p (1280x720) while the HD1080 displays 1080p (1920x1080) resolution video.

Both systems also come with an audio/video source unit that also serve as an upconverting DVD player, a 150-Watt Atlantic Technology 5.1-channel surround system, a 10-inch subwoofer, two HDMI inputs with surround speakers, and a universal remote with LCD screen. The HD720 comes with the PowerLife Home Cinema projector with 16:9 aspect ratio and 1600 lumens brightness while the HD1080 comes with the PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 gives out a maximum of 1200 lumens and 12,000:1 contrast ratio.

Both home entertainment systems features three component, one composite, one S-Video, one RS-232c and one VGA port. In addition, the HD1080 has another RS-232c and a D4/SCART connection.

The HD720 and HD1080 are both available and retail for $4,999 and $6,999 respectively. You’ll also get mounting brackets and cables that will enable you to quickly setup the system in your home.

Epson has recently launched a new line of all-in-one printers that is geared for household printing needs, and to kickstart this new printer series, Epson has also launched its flagship model, the affordable NX400 all-in-one printer. And when we say affordable, we mean dirt cheap with a retail price of $99.99.

But don’t worry, despite its cheap price, the NX400’s features don’t seem to be cheap at all. The NX400 is a full-featured printer that utilizes Epson’s DURAbrite Ultra ink for a smudge-free print. In terms of performance, the NX400 delivers as well with 34ppm for black and color text printing. You can also have a 4 x 6-inch borderless photo printed in just 26 second. In addition to this, the printer also integrates a one-touch standalone copying feature for photos and documents, as well as an option to reduce and enlarge black and white or color copies from 25 to 400 percent.

Epson has announced a new notebook, the Endeavor NA104. Without much excitement the NA104 offers some pretty standard features as well as an overall basic look and design.

To begin with the NA104 offers a 12.1-inch display with either a 1.20GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor on the high-end or a 933MHz Celeron M523 processor on the low-end. Additional features include 512MB up to 1.5GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. The NA104 will offer a choice to come with either Windows XP or Vista installed. Like we mentioned, nothing special.

Epson has released a new notebook that is scheduled for a release in late April. The Epson Endeavor NA801 runs on an Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 processor and offers up a Geforce 8600M GT with 256 of VRAM in terms of graphics power. It also features a 13.3-inch display, HDMI output, Wi-Fi 802.11a/g/n and Bluetooth 2.0. Its also nice to see that power doesn’t have to weigh a ton, the NA801 weighs in at just over 4-pounds.

The Japanese Epson website confirms that the NA801 will retail for around $1000 when it is released, sadly this will be available only in Japan.

Epson’s RX 595 all in one printer has it all. It prints, it scans, and can even read memory cards and print directly to CDs.

After opening the box, I quickly set up the printer and scrounged around for a USB A male to USB B male cable (which, unfortunately, was not included with the printer) and popped in the software CD. I was a bit disappointed that my MacBook could not automatically detect and use the printer, but installing the software was for the best. Though this is probably not a universal problem, the unit I received had a problem during its initial setup with paper jams. However, after a few aggravating minutes, the jams stopped and printing was smooth as could be.
