Bose Lifestyle V30 Home Theater System: Sweet, neat, elegant

by Marjorie Dorfman on Dec 31, 2007 at 09:19 AM

Bose Lifestyle V30 Home Theater

Award-winning sound combined with technology at its most advanced level is yours to behold with the Bose Lifestyle V30 home theater system. Audio and video benefits can also be heard and not seen (contrary to that old axiom about children) as you simply connect the high-definition components, gaming console and other A/V equipment to the media console and then hide it all away as a standalone display permits you to receive and control system information.

The Bose V30 is HD compatible and works with your existing DVD player. The Tiny Jewel Cube speakers (just 4-1/2”high), as part of the distinctive ADAPTIQ system, reproduce surround sound that is specifically customized to the room. The system is the best, boasting a video resolution of up to 1080p over High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). The V30 also features a horizontal center-channel speaker and an Acoustimass bass module. At the press of a single button on the universal remote, the correct audio and video is automatically synchronized.

The Bose Lifestyle V30 system is uniquely designed for performance, elegance and flexibility and will deliver a compelling, high quality performance every time. The exclusive technology is so intense that a user feels seated in the theater or concert hall, experiencing the rich and full sound of a unique audio and visual occasion.
Encore!

Sony is makin’ even bigger Blu-ray discs

by PJ Hruschak on Dec 6, 2006 at 06:48 AM

blu-ray_logo.gifAt a rate of 60,000 per day, Sony is pumping out new, larger capacity Blu-ray discs for the holiday season. These new discs hold 50GB, twice as much as the already new Blu-ray discs before them, allowing even more space for bonus features, and better quality audio and video. Since May 2006, Sony has shipped three million Blu-ray discs to 35 suppliers.

Movies on the Blu-ray 50GB discs from Sony and other movie studios for this holiday season include: Click, Talladega Nights, Unforgiven, The Searchers, Kingdom of Heaven, Black Hawk Down, Enemy of the State, Flightplan, The Descent, Superman, Underworld, Terminator 2 and many more. Buena Vista Home Entertainment (BVHE) already has three Blue-ray movies planned for January 2007: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Casanova and The Guardian. If you’re bettin’ on Blu-ray movies, better pray they don’t go the way of Sony’s other entertainment disc formats including the Minidisc and the UMD… or maybe you want them to fail so you can get them on sale?

HD-DVD ads

by Adam Berger on Nov 9, 2006 at 03:44 PM

HD-DVD logoFinally we are beginning to see a steady stream of HD commercials on our HD channels, so the studios have decided to conquer the next medium, the HD DVD. Up next are HD-DVDs.

Progressive Insurance has created a feature for the HD-DVD release of Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. When viewers select to see it, a tally of the cost of the damage done to the cars in the film branded by Progressive will appear. This is likely just the first instance of the capacity available on HD-DVD opening up such possibilities. Progressive has created a special micro-site for the promotion.

In this case, viewers have the ability to opt in or out, but I can only imagine where this is going. Soon the disc itself will be sponsored by a company, completely forgetting about the movie. I can see it now, “Gone With The Wind - sponsored by The Georgia Peaches association”.

Sooner or later every medium is capitalized upon.

Burn, Movielink, Burn

by Adam Berger on Jul 20, 2006 at 02:34 PM

Movielink

Movielink announced today that it has signed a deal licensing technology from Sonic Solutions that will permit the downloading of Movielink’s online film content onto DVDs. Up until now, the one thing you couldn’t do with a digitally downloadable film (legally, anyway) was burn it to DVD. It was only viewable on a PC, laptop or portable device. Though an official launch date has yet to be offered, it seems this DVD barrier is soon to be broken.

Previously, studios have been very wary of allowing any sort of sharing of information between media, instituting Digital Rights Management (DRM) protections at every turn. In fact, it is still illegal to rip a DVD onto your harddrive. Going in the other direction, from PC to DVD, may soon be an option. Sonic Solutions assures the studios that DRM measures are in place with their software to prevent illegal copies of the DVDs from being made.
