Anybody up for another pizza domain auction? 1-pizza.com is up for grabs

If you envied Chris Clark while reading our previous post on the profit he made from selling his pizza.com for $2.6 million after keeping it alive for 14 years, well here comes another domain name up for bid at eBay, 1-pizza.com. There are many reason why 1-pizza.com would be a viable domain name even if the keyword rich domains pizza.com and pizza.net are already up. And Numbers That Work, has listed several of these reasons.
Based on an appraisal and marketing analysis of 1-pizza.com, the domain can ride hot on the heels of the buzz created by the recent sale of pizza.com and pizza.net which were sold for $2.6 million and $1.1 million respectively. Other reasons cited by the market analysis on why 1-pizza.com is worth more than the two pizza domains, include; 1-pizza bears the TLD “.com”, contains a hyphen, it has the “pizza” keyword and it’s a short domain name having only 7 characters.
Pizza.com owner earns $2.6 million for selling $20 domain

If there was one thing that the 43-year old Chris Clark regretted not doing, it was not buying more domain names when he bought pizza.com in 1994. Clark who used to run a consultancy firm will become $2.6 million richer when the transaction for the purchase of pizza.com is completed in a couple of days from now.
Looking back 14 years ago, Clark, who lives in North Potomac, Maryland, did not think that he would be making a big amount of money from the domain name he purchased. He was just trying to attract a pizza company to his consultancy firm when he bought the domain back then. But after receiving no response from the pizza company, Clark still continued paying the annual renewal fee to keep the domain name.
$1.1 million to add an “S” on your domain name

A British travel company has just paid $1.1 million (560,000 pounds) to have an “S” added to their domain name. Well truly the “S” was not added, but instead the $1.1 million was used to purchase cruises.co.uk, they had already owned cruise.co.uk. The domain was purchased from a German travel company because according to the new owner “it was a necessary move to retain dominance in the rapidly growing market for ocean cruising.“ The domain purchase came down to a Google search result where “cruises” has been ranked higher on Google with “cruise” following second.
While $1.1 million may not be the highest ever paid for a domain, that title is still being held by sex.com that was sold for $12 million in 2005 and porn.com that was sold for $9.5 million just last year. This sale however does count as the highest price paid for a .co.uk domain, breaking the previous record of $300,000 that was set in October 2006.
