Problems with Android may push HTC’s “GPhone” to next year

by Shawn Ingram on Aug 8, 2008 at 07:53 PM

Android

According to a recent report from Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry, HTC’s first phone for Google’s upcoming mobile OS, Android might be delayed until next year.  The problems seem to stem from from “structural problems” for adding features that Google wants in the phone.  Chowdry seems to think HTC is nervous about the overall possibilities of success for Android. The phone is suspected to be the HTC Dream, which many believed would be released in October first for T-Moblie USA, though the date may be slipping into next year.

CherryPal PC delayed for two-weeks or maybe longer

by Robert Nelson on Aug 8, 2008 at 09:22 AM

The low-cost and low-powered CherryPal PC that was expected to begin shipping this month has been officially delayed. Overall its not a good sign of things to come from the CherryPal PC, the delay is reported to be for at least two weeks, but it may be longer, and as of now there has not been another release date announced.

The cause of the delay comes from a last minute decision to upgrade the SSD to a better quality drive, and it seems that the drive is no longer playing nicely with the software. While its nice to see that they are making improvements even at the last minute, I cannot help but be a little skeptical, especially considering that the CherryPal was supposed to be complete and ready to go back in July.

Another not so good sign, according to company reps, anyone who had placed a pre-order will be offered a refund should they decide not to wait. You know, just in case we never see the CherryPal come to market.

BlackBerry Bold gets delayed again on AT&T, Rogers

by Robert Nelson on Jul 26, 2008 at 12:12 PM

Things are not looking up for the highly-anticipated BlackBerry Bold. With further delays now expected from AT&T, it is also seeing a slight delay with Rogers in Canada.

The BlackBerry Bold will still be available for Canadian customers long before it hits here in the US, however it was supposed to have been officially available yesterday, July 25 and that of course did not happen. Rogers has pushed that launch back to July 29.

Luckily its just being delayed a week, and not nearly as bad as what we are seeing here in the US.

Opera Mobile 9.5 for Windows Mobile delayed

by Robert Nelson on Jul 15, 2008 at 03:17 PM

While the news of a delay is usually a bad thing, it will be nice to hear that this delay is just two days. That’s right, instead of being released on today July 15 as expected it has been pushed back to July 17.

“As you can imagine, we encountered a few bugs last week that we needed to fix before we launch. Our engineering team worked through the weekend to fix the bugs. Even though our release is a beta, we’d rather spend the extra time to fix them, thus giving you a better experience. The fixes are almost complete now, but we need two more days to run the build through our quality assurance testing. The new launch date is now set for the 17th.”

Of course, even when released on July 17, this is still just a beta release and not a final version. While a delay is not always the best news, on the flip side its nice to see a company making sure its going to work as expected, instead of just dumping something out for the sake of making the deadline.

So here’s to waiting two additional delays before we are able to play around with Opera Mobile 9.5. Hopefully we will not see any further delays.

AT&T BlackBerry Bold having problems, delayed possibly until August

by Natesh Sood on Jun 25, 2008 at 06:31 PM

The highly anticipated BlackBerry Bold may be on track in Canada, however it seem to be having issues and will be delayed for while here in the US. The new date of it’s release is sometime in August, and although according to BGR this has been confirmed by “two high-level sources,” it is has not been officially confirmed from AT&T at this time.

AT&T and the manufacturer of Blackberry, RIM, are reported to be having problems with the software, battery life and overheating problems. It looks like AT&T and RIM have disappointed a lot of people recently, and now with this, people are just going to be more and more annoyed. Hopefully they can get these problems sorted out soon and maybe it could be launched earlier than August. Stay tuned for more information on this as it becomes available.

Nokia N810 WiMax Edition gets listed, priced at Buy.com

by Robert Nelson on Apr 28, 2008 at 07:52 AM

Buy.com Nokia N810 WiMax Edition listing

Buy.com has already listed the Nokia N810 WiMax Edition on their site. The N810 is currently listed for $455 with a suggested retail of $479, but as we would expect, is not currently in stock. The listing, although a little early seems to fit the time frame as Nokia announced it would be available beginning in the summer of 2008, however we cannot help but remember that the WiMax coverage would be delayed. Think I can hold off buying a device that is built specifically for a technology that is not even available.

HP quietly pushing up the shipping dates for the Mini-Note 2133

by Robert Nelson on Apr 13, 2008 at 07:10 PM

It seems that with each passing day the estimated shipping dates for the recently announced HP Mini-Note 2133 seem to be increasing. What began as an estimated shipping date of April 15 has quickly moved up to April 20. As Liliputing noted yesterday the estimated date was April 19, a quick check this morning showed it as of April 20, it seems the date is moving up by one every day. If you were looking or considering placing an order, you may not want to wait to long.

Although having the estimated shipping date seem to increase at such a rapid rate, we have to think that this is just based on popularity of the item and the amount being sold and not an actual product delay. I had placed an order fairly early after the announcement and have yet to receive any notification about a delay in shipping, hopefully the already placed orders will ship as originally expected.

Sprint gives the bad news, WiMAX will be delayed

by Robert Nelson on Apr 3, 2008 at 06:31 PM

Sprint Nextel has announced the planned roll-out of their Xohm WiMAX will be delayed. According to a company spokesperson we can now expect it “later in the year” but rumor has it that it will come sometime this summer. Sprint was also quick to make it clear that the delay was not due to anything technical, claiming that:

“We want to make sure the launch meets our expectation,”

This delay can not be good news for the recently announced Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition. As far as the Cloudbook Max announcement, we were initially put off by their availability which came as it was “expected to be available in a year,” it now seems that is no longer an issue. Of course those in Chicago, D.C., and Baltimore will still be able to enjoy the service while everyone else waits, thanks to the soft launches that Sprint had in those areas.

Palm gains more losses by the million, delays release of Palm Treo 800w until summer

by David Gonzales on Mar 22, 2008 at 09:54 PM

Palm Treo 800W leaked images

Sad news for Palm Treo and Windows Mobile fans: Palm CEO Ed Colligan recently announced a $31.5 million net loss for Palm and said that “new Windows Mobile Treos” are “not coming out this quarter,” then follows it up with saying the new Windows Mobile Treo smart phone should be available by the end of this year’s summer. I like how Mr. Colligan uses the term “new Windows Mobile Treos” (note that it’s Treos, with an S) when he could actually just as easily say that the Palm Treo 800W will be having a slight delay in coming out. I almost don’t want to believe that they can’t do anything about this and release their new WinMo Treos sooner, when they know very well that they need it to salvage their flailing enterprise.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will be released as scheduled

by Robert Nelson on Mar 3, 2008 at 07:48 PM

It seems the recent rumors about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 being delayed are just not true. According to an official statement from Aldo Liguori, who is the Corporate Vice President of the Global Communications and PR department at Sony Ericsson it will be released as originally planned.

“I can confirm that we will be launching the X1 product in 2nd Half of 2008, as per our announcement of 10th February that we made in Barcelona”

This is definitely excellent news for those waiting for the XPERIA X1. Hopefully this will hold true and not have any future changes that cause a delay, its still nice to hear that at least as of now it will be released as scheduled, its just a shame that it could not be sooner.
