Netgear’s newest Skype phone does landlines as well

by PJ Hruschak on Jan 8, 2007 at 03:44 PM

netgear_sph200d.jpgLike Skype? Well, Netgear has released a dual-mode cordless phone that works with a standard land line and - yep, you guessed it - Skype. The Netgear SPH200D Dual-Mode DECT Cordless Phone With Skype allows you to switch between your network router for Skype calling and your landline for good ol’ regular calls. Of course, if you are super keen on Skyping, who knows why you’d want the landline, too. Anyway, it lets you switch between landline and Skype for each call and will support up to four handsets. The 1.9GHz SPH200D is currently available for $200. One site says your computer needs to be on for the phone to work but the Netgear site doesn’t say anything about it. Let us know if you have tried it. The Netgear Dual-Mode Cordless Phone With Skype is currently available for $200.

3J Communications releases new dual-mode Skype phone

by Doug Berger on Dec 14, 2006 at 11:32 PM

SkyPartner SP101This one’s hot off the wire.  3JCommunications has just announced the new SkyPartner SP101, a dual-mode phone to place calls on both Skype and your land-line.  The phone acts like any other Skype phone you’ve heard of, but also sports a 1.5-inch color display, independent phonelists for your Skype buddies and land-line phone numbers, and a battery life of up to 120 hours standby time; 8 hours talk time.  You’re also far from tied down to the base unit.  With the new SP101, you can walk up to 160 feet away from the base station and still talk on the phone.  It’s no cellphone, but still pretty damn good for a Skype phone.  The phone connects to your computer via an included USB dongle.  It won’t make it out until January 2007 (for $119.95), so don’t think you’re getting it for the holidays.
