Magellan displays 3 new 1400 series GPS units at CeBIT

by Natesh Sood on Mar 8, 2008 at 08:15 AM

RoadMate 1425

The new 1400 series are part of Magellan’s fast growing GPS lineup. These new GPS units are very thin and designed to fit in the pocket and work as soon as you turn it on. Basically, these new GPS units all feature a 4.3-inch anti-glare touch screen, and a cool new interface called QuickSpell. This allows you to get the address you need without typing a whole lot. It also comes with SmartDetour, which does just what it says, it finds different routes in case there is a lot of traffic.

Overall, all of the GPS units in the 1400 series feature the following:

Navigon 2120 Max

At CeBIT 2008, Navigon announced the Max Series which contained two GPS units, the 2100 and the 2120. Overall they are pretty similar except that the 2120 comes with maps of the United States and Canada where the 2100 only comes with maps of the 48 contiguous states. Otherwise, they are basically the same feature wise.

Navigon announces the new 2100 Max [Updated]

by Natesh Sood on Mar 4, 2008 at 08:52 PM

Navigon 2100 Max

At CeBIT 2008, Navigon has announced a few new GPS models to add to their North American GPS lineup. The first of the few that they announced was the 2100 Max. One of the main things the Navigon touts about their 2100 Max is the widescreen display, but other than that, it’s basically your average GPS, coming with all the features you would expect a GPS to come with.

“Navigon is building on the same product strategy that drove our success last year. We are committed to providing GPS systems with features that are relevant to the navigation experience,” said Andreas Hecht, Navigon’s President for the Americas. “We believe we’ve raised the bar with a competitively priced, feature-packed GPS device.”

Navigon announces new map service, Fresh Maps

by Natesh Sood on Mar 4, 2008 at 05:27 PM

Navigon Logo

Usually, maps of any GPS don’t really get updated unless you’re willing to pay upwards of a $100 just for one measly map update that you might not even use. Dubbed Fresh Maps, this is the first GPS company to actually offer a map updating subscription service. With this new service, Navigon will be offering around 12 map updates over a 3 year period, all for only $79. Only problem is, this service will only work with a few of Navigon’s GPS units such as the 7100, 5100, and the 2100/2120 Max series.

Andreas Hecht, Navigon President in North America, had this to say about this new service:

Getac’s PS535E Windows Mobile handheld with built-in GPS

by Kian Henry on Mar 3, 2008 at 10:14 PM

Getec PS535E

Getac has released their latest handheld, the PS535E, a Pocket PC that runs Windows Mobile 5.0 Premium. Some may be critical of the design, but it is a rugged product so what can you really expect. It has passed FCC testing, which means it is suitable for military and industrial use. It is very rugged having passed the MIL-STD 810F and IP54 tests and should survive the knocks and drops of any office, let alone out in the field.

The PS535E features include a 400MHz processor, Wi-Fi, GPS, 2GB flash storage, a 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen and it also comes with the Windows Mobile Office software. The powerful battery, speaker/microphone and mini USB port are small things which will make usage a little easier.

ASUS shows off new R70a UMPC at CeBIT

by Natesh Sood on Mar 3, 2008 at 07:02 AM

ASUS R70a

First reports on the new ASUS R70a UMPC indicates that it is not exactly a hot UMPC by any means, but it should still get the job done. It is pretty big and bulky machine, but otherwise it has nice features. One of the weird things is that it doesn’t seem to come with a keyboard.

To begin with, it features a 7-inch screen, runs Windows Vista, reportedly has a 120GB hard drive, and sports a 1.6GHz processor - no word on which Intel this is. Unfortunately, no more details have been released about the inside of the R70a. However, on the outside it boasts 2 USB ports, a memory card slot, and a stand to prop it up while watching videos. It bears similar controls to it’s little brother, the R50a. Since it can be mounted onto the car dashboard, it is thought that it comes with GPS capabilities. When ASUS officially announces this, there will probably be more details such as pricing and availability. Stay tuned!

LG has 3 new phones on display at CeBIT

by Natesh Sood on Mar 1, 2008 at 08:53 PM

LG phones

Recently, LG, a large cell phone manufacturer, has come out with a few new phones. However, they only released some information on basically 1 out of the 3 phones, the KF570, which you can see in the above picture. For the second and third phones - the KF240 and the KF300, LG has not released a lot of information on those as of yet.

Let’s begin with what I think is the better of the 2 phones, the KF570. Basically, it comes with 160MB of internal memory, memory expansion via microSD cards, 5-megapixel camera with AutoFocus, unique touchpad design, and a touch screen display. Overall, it is very thin and sports a pretty hot design. If you’re one of those people who care about the look of the phone a lot, then you’ll definitely like this phone as it combines good technical features and well as a nice look. This phone is already up for sale on a Romanian website, however, if you don’t live near there then you’ll probably have to wait for CeBIT for more information on this and the other LG phones. Meanwhile, all that is known on the KF240 phone is that it is a music centric phone.
