Eighteen year old student fails class, hacks school computer, now faces 38 years behind bars

by Robert Nelson on Jun 21, 2008 at 02:05 PM

War Games Screenshot

Omar Khan, an 18-year-old student from Coto de Caza, California attempted to pull a move straight from the movie War Games. And I am not referring to the whole “lets play Global Thermonuclear War” incident, but instead the hacking into his schools computer to change his failing grades to passing grades. Mr. Kahn was “allegedly” changing his D’s and F’s to something a little more positive, A’s. Wow, talk about an improvement, you would think he would have settled to at least pass and just move them up to a C in an effort to avoid detection. But instead he went all the way up, because it seems his intention was not only to avoid failing and the potential summer school, but to get into a good college. I can only assume that he would have continued to hack his grades after he started college as well.

BlackBerry Thunder; live shot, confirmed headed to Verizon

by Robert Nelson on Jun 8, 2008 at 01:33 PM

BlackBerry Thinder Live Shot

The upcoming BlackBerry Thunder finally has a live shot, and while it does not cover all the internal specs, it does give us a good idea of what we have in store for us on the outside. Aside from the large touchscreen display, the Thunder has just about all the convenience (button-wise) as any current BlackBerry model. From the image we can see it has the standard send, end/power, menu and escape keys that you would expect. It also has a lock key in the upper left, a play/pause key on the upper right, as well as a left and right convenience key and external volume controls. It also clearly confirms that it will be headed to Verizon—at least initially. 3G iPhone who?

HTC intro's the Touch Diamond

While we can all read the specs and look at the images and dream about how much we would like to get our hands on the Touch Diamond, but with the phone not yet available, and only having been announced in London, hands on time is at a minimum. It seems that HTC has taken that into consideration and provided quite a bit of material to check it out in action, courtesy of their YouTube channel.

First up we have the introduction:

HTC intro’s their new flagship, the Touch Diamond

by Robert Nelson on May 6, 2008 at 08:05 AM

HTC Touch Diamond

As we expected, Tuesday has come and so has the announcement from HTC. They have officially unveiled the Touch Diamond, which is being referred to as their new flagship product, and judging from the specs it seems worthy of that title.

The Touch Diamond will feature a 2.8-inch touchscreen VGA quality display, 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera as well as a second VGA camera on the front, 256MB ROM/192MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, integrated GPS, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and an accelerometer. The handset will be running Windows Mobile 6.1 and powered by a Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor.

The Touch Diamond will also have TouchFLO 3D, which is aimed to make using your phone easier, by reacting “perfectly to your finger gestures when scrolling through contacts, browsing the web, and launching media.” With the combination of the HSDPA 7.2 connectivity, TouchFLO 3D and the built-in Opera browser with zoom-in capabilities HTC is claiming the Touch Diamond will offer an “online experience to rival a notebook computer.” In addition the Touch Diamond will also feature one-touch music playback, a built-in microphone, speaker, FM radio with RDS and both a pre-loaded YouTube and Google Maps application.

The Touch Diamond will first be available via Orange in Europe beginning in June, with Asia and the Middle East to follow later in this quarter and both Latin and North America to follow during the second half of 2008. At this time a price has not been announced.

The FCC outs the Asus Eee PC 900; with Bluetooth, “multi-finger gesture input”

by Robert Nelson on Mar 26, 2008 at 04:01 PM

FCC Leaked Pics, Asus Eee PC 900

Once again we are learning more details about an unreleased and still unannounced product courtesy of the FCC, this time its the long rumored Asus Eee PC 900. While it may not be everything we had hoped for, we did see mention of a Bluetooth module, but still nothing on GPS, WiMAX or even the touchscreen that was ‘confirmed’ earlier by Kevin Lin. But there was one big surprise however, in the form of a multi-touch trackpad, which will allow two-finger zooming as well as two-finger scrolling.

Intel’s 2go PC; formerly know as the Netbook

by Robert Nelson on Mar 24, 2008 at 07:31 PM

Intel 2go PC formerly known as the Netbook

It was just a few weeks back that we first saw those cell phone style pics show up, only to quickly be followed up with a much cleaner looking set, based on that it seemed only a matter of time before more information came out. This time its in the form of a spec sheet and a few press style pics. The Intel Netbook 2go PC will be manufactured by Computer Technology Link (CTI) and seems to be aimed primarily at the education and classroom market although with the featured specs it should hold its own against with the recent ultra-portable craze.

The 2go PC will be running on an Intel Celeron M processor with the 915GMS chipset and come with Windows XP or Linux. The 2go PC will feature a 9-inch display with an 800 x 480 resolution, 512MB of RAM standard with support up to 1GB, a 4200 RPM 40GB hard drive, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, SD/MMC card reader and a built-in webcam.

Although an official price and release date has not yet been announced, rumor has it that it should be available in less than 60 days and retailing for around $400. Keep reading for a few more pics of the 2go PC…

Breaking: Sirius, XM merger receives approval

by Robert Nelson on Mar 24, 2008 at 03:37 PM

It has been in the works for a long time, just over a year now and at this point many were thinking the approval would never happen. However, it seems the latest two month extension for the merger deadline was just was they needed. The Department of Justice has approved Sirius’s $5 billion buyout of XM Radio, however no information was given on just when the merger will officially take place.

According to the DOJ: “Evidence Does Not Establish that Combination of Satellite Radio Providers Would Substantially Reduce Competition”
