£27k mobile bill in the UK

When will people learn! Hot on the heals of the Canadian guy and his huge cell phone bill, this idiot in the UK has just run up a £27,322 mobile bill.
How did he do it? Pretty much exactly the same way - by using the mobile phone attached to his computer to download movies! And as with our man in Canada it looks like he will be let of by Vodafone:
“The intensity of Ian’s downloading was such that by the time our systems flagged anything up he had already racked up a massive bill. Our advice would be to never use a mobile as a modem. We will try to come to some sympathetic arrangement. And we hope he won’t make the same mistake again.“
So in case you are stupid, or just want to try and get away with it here are the excuses Ian Simpson used:
- He did not realize that his £41.50-a-month Vodafone deal didn’t include unlimited web use.
- I probably downloaded 20 or 30 TV shows and four albums. I assumed it’d be OK, but they cut me off.
- If I’d known it would cost so much I wouldn’t have done it.
Next time I suggest you read the contract - you must have the time with all that hanging around you must have done while your cell phone was downloading a movie!
