Sony Ericsson’s Paris, Bei Bei handsets given the axe?

by Robert Nelson on Jun 20, 2008 at 10:38 PM

Rumor has it that the upcoming Paris P5 and BeiBei G702 handsets have been terminated and will no longer be manufactured. The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog is reporting that the cancellation of these phones is due in part to a large amount of “criticism from reviewers and other industry watchers.” While that may be at least partially true; what handset, especially those in the development stage does not receive criticism?

While neither may have had the highest of specs, they both shared in a fairly decent amount of hype, both the Paris and Bei Bei each had numerous leaked images and leaked videos.

While this is still unconfirmed from the Sony Ericsson camp, the story does have one additional twist as they both may still potentially be released, but only in the Asian market.

The Sony Ericsson BeiBei gets a promo video

by Robert Nelson on Jun 2, 2008 at 09:50 AM

The rumored launch date is set for June 17, but those who are anxious to get more information about the BeiBei (G702) from Sony Ericsson will have to settle for this latest promo video. It seems this handset is taking its lead in from the P5 Paris, as they have both had a bunch of leaked images, followed up by some specs and then a video. The BeiBei will offer a touchscreen display, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and will be running UIQ over Symbian OS. Keep reading to check out the video.

Sony Ericsson’s BeiBei, more leaked images

by Robert Nelson on May 10, 2008 at 12:20 PM

Sony Ericsson BeiBei Leaked Image Backside

In what seems like its becoming a tradition recently, with releasing live images of unreleased Sony Ericsson handsets on a one at a time basis. Anyway the latest leaked image is of the BeiBei, and it gives us a nice clear shot of the backside. While the BeiBei was previously rumored to have a 5.0-megapixel webcam, after seeing this latest image I am not 100% convinced of that. While a little hard to make out, the megapixels are listed just above the lens and looks like its a 3.2-megapixel. Overall the BeiBei looks like a nice phone, but the stylus makes me reconsider the coolness factor. Keep reading for another image of the frontside, just in case you wanted a refresher…

Sony Ericsson’s BeiBei gets a stylus?

by Mark Pascua on May 8, 2008 at 08:33 AM

Sony Ericsson BeiBei

Sony Ericsson hasn’t been saying much about its upcoming UIQ-based, candybar phone, codenamed BeiBei. However, the latest tidbit of information to grace the Internet is a photo depicting a red stick protruding from the side of the phone. What could that red stick be, you ask? Well, most likely a stylus. Unless the photo is a Photoshop creation, then it would appear that the BeiBei will be sporting a touch-sensitive LCD.

Highlights of the Sony Ericsson BeiBei include its Symbian OS-based UIQ 3.3 user interface, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, 5.0-megapixel camera, FM radio, and Walkman music player. Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson still has not announced pricing or availability details.

Is this Sony Ericsson’s new business BeiBei?

by JG Mason on May 4, 2008 at 12:09 PM

SE Beibei

Rumors have been floating around about this phone since Barcelona and we’ve still nothing from Sony Ericsson. Now, a new photo is making the rounds looking like a pretty real, smartly dressed business phone. Reportedly known as BeiBei, these new images raise more questions than they answer but actual facts are few. Here is what we have so far:

  • Touchscreen phone
  • Wi-Fi
  • Part of the Walkman series
  • Symbian OS 9.3 with the new UIQ 3.3 user interface (with Demand Paging support)
  • Oddly small touchscreen and button overkill (just look at them all!)

Gaming? Extra functionality? What is the deal with all those buttons? More on BeiBei as it comes.
