Asus unveils the brushed-metal Eee PC 1002HA

by Robert Nelson on Nov 21, 2008 at 07:19 PM

Asus unveils the brushed-metal Eee PC 1002HA

We first saw details on the Eee PC 1002HA back in late-October.  Asus has recently shown the netbook off at a media event and with that comes a nice image.

Feature wise, this model is nothing to get overly excited by.  Most of the features are the same as we have come to see as “normal” for a netbook.  To begin with, the Eee PC 1002HA will have a 10-inch display, as well as an Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.1n and it will be running Windows XP.  Otherwise, the 1002HA will also have a few available options for storage including both SSD and standard hard drives.

Moving on from the specs, the exterior casing is what makes this particular model stand out.  The exterior is sporting a pretty nice looking brushed metal.  It was also noted as being “a sturdy, upscale-looking chassis.“  In addition to the brushed metal on the exterior, the wrist rest also includes the brushed metal.

As for pricing and availability, the Eee PC 1000HA is expected to begin shipping in early-December and start at $499 and go up depending on configuration.

Asus gets official with the Eee Top all-in-one PC

Asus gets official with the Eee Top all-in-one PC

Following up on yesterday’s post, Asus has made the Eee Top all-in-one PC official.  As for the specs, there are no real surprises to be found, although Asus only mentioned the lower-end ET1602 and seemed to have left the ET1603 out.

Just as a recap, the ET1602 will feature a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Wi-Fi 802.11, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and a pair of built-in 4-watt speakers.  Another item to note on the ET1602 is the operating system, it will be running Windows XP and feature an “Easy Mode.“  The display will be a 15.6-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 and be in a 16:9 widescreen format.  The ET1602 will also ship with a keyboard and mouse, and the keyboard has a built-in stylus to take advantage of the touchscreen.  More on this touchscreen desktop after the break.

Asus rumored to launch Eee Top all-in-one PC tomorrow, beginning at $499

Asus rumored to launch Eee Top all-in-one PC tomorrow, beginning at $499

We have recently seen the official announcement of the MSI Wind Neton and now we are seeing reports that Asus will be launching their competing all-in-one desktop as early as tomorrow.  The Asus all-in-one desktop PC is the Eee Top, and it comes in two models, the ET1602 and the ET1603.  The announcement is expected to come during an Asus news conference on November 20.

As for the specs, the ET1602 features a 15.9-inch touchscreen, a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Wi-Fi 802.11, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and a pair of built-in speakers.  The ET1603 will offer similar features as the ET1602 but has a better (ATI HD3450) graphics card along with a battery.  Of course, the ET1603 weighs in at 9.7-pounds, and given that it seems the battery would serve more as a backup in case of a power loss, than provide for portability.

Still unknown is the pricing, although Asus CEO Jerry Shen did mention in the past that it would be a low priced device.  As for the actual availability, hopefully we will find that out, along with the official pricing tomorrow.

Best Buy lowers Eee PC 900A price yet again, now just $280

This one is not a Black Friday deal, but instead just another nicely priced product coming from Best Buy.  We had recently seen them drop the MSI Wind down to $349, and now they have further slashed the pricing for the Eee PC 900A.  It was not that long ago when it was dropped to $299.99, but now another 20 bucks have been cut, bringing the price down to just $279.99.

Just to recap, the 900A specs include an 8.9-inch display, 1GB of RAM, a 4GB SSD, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, a 4-cell battery and will be running Linux. The Eee PC 900A is also available in either white, black or purple.

Aspire one to overtake Eee

by Christian Milsom on Nov 3, 2008 at 09:01 AM

Acer Aspire One and Asus Eee PC
Asus set a target of 5 million units of its Eee PC netbook to be sold this year, which they appear to be reaching.  The only problem is that shipments of the Acer Aspire One are creeping towards its ambitious target of 6 million sales, 20% more than the Eee PC.

The title of “best selling netbook” is one that Asus will be incredibly reluctant to give up as it was mainly them who came up with the netbook idea, and it has been through them that the craze has spread.  However the numbers do not lie, Asus only shipped 1.7 million in the third quarter while Acer managed 2.4 million, and advantage they intend to continue into the fourth quarter with predicted sales to exceed this quarter.

$200 Eee PC by next year?

by Shawn Ingram on Nov 1, 2008 at 08:30 AM

Eee PC 901Looking to get an Eee PC for less than an iPod?  Sounds like a good idea, doesn’t it?  Well, in its quarterly investors earnings call, Asustek announced a great number of things, including the fact that the baseline Eee PCs will be lowered to $200 by the end of 2009.  It seems 1.7 million Eee PCs were shipped last quarter, and Asus is expecting 1.8 million to be shipped this coming quarter.  There is some bad news for some, though.

Along with the price announcement, Asus announced that the 7” and 8.9” models will soon be phased out in favor of the 10-inch models.  That’s somewhat sad to me at least.  The 8.9” is the perfect size I think, especially if the screens on the 8.9” and 10” are the same resolution.

More after the break.

Each year we are offered tricks and treats by tech companies.  Some products turn out better than we hope and some far worse than we ever imagined.  For this Halloween Who’s on Crack, let’s take a look at who has offered more treats than tricks.

As promised, I am not including Motorola in this list, though I think we all know they belong here.  With that, I give you my trick or treat list.

See who made my list by following me.

You can help Intel, Asus design a PC online

by Jodie Andrefski on Oct 30, 2008 at 10:29 AM

dreampc
Intel and Asus have just launched a site yesterday that allows everybody and anybody to help them to design a PC.  WebPC is looking for collaborators to work together to help the two companies bring about a “community designed” PC.  Their ultimate goal is to be able to actually market this community designed PC, as it would be the first like it in the world.  With the motto of “You Dream it.  ASUS Builds it.  Intel inside it.“ on the front page, it’s easy to see how you can get lured in to being a part of the vision. Another day, another Eee, Asus unveils the Eee PC 1002HA

by Robert Nelson on Oct 29, 2008 at 02:12 PM

Another day, another Eee, Asus unveils the Eee PC 1002HA

Asus has added yet another model into the ever growing lineup, this time it is the Eee PC 1002HA.  Basically, the 1002HA seems to marry some of the S101 styling with the features found in the Eee PC 1000 series.

The 1002HA will feature a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive.  A big drawback of the 1002HA comes in part to the battery, which is a lowly 2-cell model, as opposed to the large 6-cell that is available in many of the 1000 series models.  Keep reading for more details on the 872nd Eee PC.
