Microsoft offers to acquire Yahoo! for $44.6 billion dollars.

by Doug Berger on Feb 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Microsoft offers to acquire Yahoo! for $44.6 billion dollars. In a move that completely has the tech industry shaken up, Microsoft has put out a statement saying they have Proposes Acquisition of Yahoo! for $31 per Share - which of course equates to $44.6 billion dollars.  Yes, that this number -> $44,600,000,000… wow.

The bid for tech giant Yahoo is a mix of cash and stock, and would clearly be a giant blow to search leader Google.  The release states that online advertising is a big plus to the acquisition, in a niche where the two companies have struggled to compete with Google’s AdSense / Adwords.

Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ballmer sent the following letter to the Yahoo! Board of Directors yesterday.  More analysis to come on Gadgetell.

Google brings YouTube videos into Google Video search results

by Doug Berger on Jan 26, 2007 at 04:16 AM

Google Video YouTube logoToday we saw the first step in the integration of Google Video and YouTube.  Salar Kamangar, Vice President, Product Management for Google announced on the Official Google Blog this morning that all YouTube videos have been indexed for search in Google Video.  When you click on the result however, it will take you to that video’s page on YouTube.

They also that Google Video and YouTube serve different purposes - which is very evident by their decision to keep both of them active.  “Over time, Google Video will become even more comprehensive as it evolves into a service where you can search for the world’s online video content, irrespective of where it may be hosted,” Kamangar said.  So will we be seeing Yahoo Video and MetaCafe video on Google Video search in the near future?

Finally, Kamangar vaguely spoke of the implementation of AdSense into Google Video / YouTube.  Soon enough, publishers will be able to insert the video ads into their videos so they can make a little money...and make Google a lot of money.  The master plan is unfolding right before our very eyes.  Stay tuned as more develops.

A look ahead at Google Video and YouTube [Offical Google Blog]
