Sprint’s July 13 Palm Treo 800w launch confirmed

by Robert Nelson on Jun 22, 2008 at 05:49 PM

Sprint Palm Treo 800w Launch Date Confirmation

It looks like the rumors that have been surrounding the upcoming release of the Palm Treo 800w for Sprint will indeed come true. As we previously reported, the launch date was rumored to be July 13, and it looks like that has since been confirmed. Of course, July 13 is when the regular, or non-enterprise customers will be able to get their hands on one. The Treo 800w will first be available beginning July 9 for enterprise customers.

The Treo 800w will set users back $599.99 if you choose to go in without a contract, or a much more reasonable $249.99 along with a two-year agreement.

In addition to the Treo 800w it looks like Sprint customers can expect the red BlackBerry Curve to land at the same time, and the LG Rumor in blue to follow later in the month of July.

by Robert Nelson on Jun 6, 2008 at 10:09 PM

Sprint branded Palm Treo 800w

We have seen a handful of expected release dates for the Treo 800w, and the latest is placing the availability date on July 13. In addition to the most recent release date there have also been some confirmed specs.

The Treo 800w will ship with a decent 1150mah battery, which is the same that is offered in the Centro. The 800w will also feature a 320 x 320 display, 100MB of program memory, 170MB of storage memory, Wi-Fi, microUSB connector, 2.1-megapixel camera and it will be powered by an ARM1136 processor and running Windows Mobile 6.1 (5.2.1944). The 800w will also feature the standard on/off switch on the top for the ringer as well as a similar button to control the Wi-Fi.

Expect the handset to set you back $249.99, which would the final price after some rebates and along with an agreement.

Leaked live images Palm Treo 800w

Leaked Images Sprint branded Palm Treo 800w

Some more images of the upcoming Palm Treo 800w have been making their way around the Internet, the latest however are pretty clear, well clear compared to some previous leaked images anyway, and show off both the front and back side.

The Sprint-branded Treo 800w, as if the “w” was not indication enough is clearly pictured running non other than Windows Mobile as the OS. Overall a slightly better looking Treo than previous models, but it seems that there is nothing much to get overly excited about.

Palmheads: Is new software going to make you happy?

by JG Mason on May 19, 2008 at 10:24 PM

Palm CFO says, “The big difference is software. That’s where our core expertise really is.” He said this in a JP Morgan’s tech conference.  Sure software is important, but by the look of things to come, they seem to be ignoring hardware.

At the tech conference, Palm promised their new OS based on Linux will be here by the end of the year and products out in first half of 2009.  They’ve been cooking up this Linux base for 3 years now and many of us have grown tired of waiting.

Palm Treo 800w; more leaked images

Palm Treo 800w

The upcoming Palm Treo 800w, which is expected to be released in July with Sprint has begun to show up online. We saw what we believe was the first live image just a few days back and now a few more images have shown their face. A nice image of the side of the 800w, along with a slightly blurry front shot and finally a sandwich style image that show the Samsung Upstage, Treo 800w and PPC-6800.

As of now there have been a few confirmed specs which include internal Wi-Fi with an on/off switch, it will be powered by a MSM6800 Chipset and have OS 5.2.1944 (Windows Mobile 6.1). Keep reading to check out the remaining two images…

Palm Treo 800w shows its true face

by Robert Nelson on May 16, 2008 at 06:01 AM

Palm Treo 800w In-The-Wild Style Image

Just surfaced is what appears to be a live image of the upcoming Palm Treo 800w, which is nice because up to now we have had plenty of blurry and junky images of the Palm’s new Treo. Of course this image, while nice and clear is simply of the prototype and not an official model to be released, it still has the generic “carrier” name instead of an actual carrier.

What we have seen is that the Treo 800w will be CDMA and have a microUSB plug. The previous rumors also placed the handset with a 320 x 320 touchscreen, having EVDO Rev.0 support, Wi-Fi and is going to be running Windows Mobile 6.1. The rumored release date is currently looking at July 22, of course that is still subject to delay.

Rumor: Palm’s Foleo is their new “innovative Wi-FI device”

by Robert Nelson on Apr 24, 2008 at 08:43 AM

Palm has recently begun looking for users to test an “innovative new product”. The lucky recipients of the email invitation must be a “heavy” smartphone and email user as well as use a Wi-Fi router and they also need to be a Sprint customer. While this sounds like, and most people would think that this was for the rumored Wi-Fi equipped Treo 800, The Register has a unique thought and its one that I am not sure how much I can believe. They are calling for the re-birth of the never launched Palm Foleo, and as a comeback it will be WiMAX enabled.

While it almost sounds logical, I think they are off from the simple statement of “innovative new product,” as the Foleo was never really that innovative. Not to mention, although it never officially launched I am not sure it could be considered new at this point, unless of course (as Kevin from jkOnTheRun points out) that Palm launches the device as the Foleo II, then technically it would be new. Still I think this is clearly just a rumor, and one that will never come to see the light of day.

Of course for this rumor to even have a chance, we would have to see Sprint actually get their WiMAX service up and running.

Treo 800w details emerging?

by Robert Nelson on Jan 26, 2008 at 03:17 PM

Palm Treo 800w

Fresh off the news that Palm is closing of all but one of their retail locations, we are now starting to see some details for the Treo 800 trickle in. If you remember Microsoft had shown off what appeared to be the Treo 800 during Bill Gates keynote at CES 2008, and now it seems like that ghost of an image is a little more believable.

While currently the Treo 800w is still just a rumor, it appears that it would be getting ready to hit the market sooner than later. Without any official details from Palm the Treo 800w appears to have a style similar to the Centro and is said to also be as thin.

The Treo 800w is expected to feature a 2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi (802.11g), the ability to switch the Wi-Fi off and on, EvDO Rev. A, 256MB of memory, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR, an FM radio, have microSD support and the classic Treo style on/off ringer switch. It is expected to be running Windows Mobile 6.0 and also have a miniUSB plug on the bottom that will be used for both syncing and charging.
