If the idea of buying a Sony Ericsson phone preloaded with songs from Madonna’s latest album Hard Candy sounds appealing to you, then you’d be glad to know that Sony Ericsson and Warner Music have sealed a deal that will soon make this a reality. Fortunately for some SE fans who are not as into Madonna’s kind of music, the arrangement would only be good for selected SE handsets but nonetheless these will be released in some 27 countries worldwide.
Actually, Sony Ericsson has began distributing some of the songs from Hard Candy this past May when it bundled a “4 minutes” remix of Madonna’s song with some of its W890 units in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
As for this new agreement, Sony Ericsson will be offering two packages. One will offer five tracks from the Hard Candy album while another will offer the full album including other Hard Candy promotional materials such as wallpapers and ringtones. Beginning this month, Sony Ericsson mobile phone fans in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia to name just a few, will soon find themselves having to contend with Sony Ericsson phones preloaded with Hard Candy tracks. So, if they are Madonna fans, they will definitely find these exciting, but if not, this might make them refrain from buying Sony Ericsson phones for awhile.
Somehow we agree with John Reid, Vice Chairman of WMI and President Warner Music Europe when he said that:
“The evolution of mobile handsets along with technological convergence continues to open up new ways for us to distribute and market our artists’ music. This partnership with Sony Ericsson further expands HARD CANDY’s global promotional reach and puts exciting content from the album direct into the hands of Madonna fans all over the world. Not only that, packaging music from a global megastar with new Sony Ericsson phones will help drive sales of music-enabled devices and contribute to the uptake of mobile music”.
Sounds like a good deal for both companies. But we are hoping that Sony Ericsson will at least spare the forthcoming XPERIA X1 from this arrangement.
